Maybe I will run my LSi front with my Mythos rears for the downstairs room for now and get the Mythos out to you, or since I am still in need of the rear LSi setup I could do the opposite. Grrrr... assuming Mythos since you still require a parts list and plan of attack on the LSi crossovers. I will shoot you another email and figure out the turn around time. Thankfully, I am not expecting guests for a month or two unlike the last six months with constant visitors to entertain and Gears of War to play. Nothing like two HT rooms and consoles to get a group of guys drinking and trash talking.

All good! I would be able to turn the Mythos around to you in no time flat! :) 1 week or less I would think - all the parts are still here! :)

First, I should introduce myself. Been a registered member for awhile. Finally bought some Lsi9's this week.

I'd be interested in the xover upgrade as well. I'll get them set up and listen to them for a week or so. I'll PM you VR3 for specifics in the near future.

    Thanks,

    So good news -

I found a supplier that can cut me plates do the exact size of the binding post terminals on any speaker - cost would of course vary... I would probably order bulk quantities of Polk sizes which I could sell for around 10 bucks and one offs I would have to sell for around 20 a piece... Hmmm

Interesting - I like the idea of the plates being virtually a drop in replacement, you might have to do some modifications to the cut out (square versus rounded edges) - but it should look slick...

    Thoughts?

Rounded edges would be preferable so it's a total drop in deal if you want to switch them out but that's just my .02

Rounded edges are doable - I will be fabricating everything once they arrive here - so it wouldnt take no time on a grinder to round them out, round the edges, drill some holes - etc etc :)

I am here to make you guys what you want, you just gotta tell me what that is! :)

I am pretty pumped - it would be simple as pie to offer these plates to Polk owners, include 4" threaded rods - the stock mounting holes would slide right down - have a nice stock mounted terminal plate... stock xovers - heavy duty posts... no one likes plastic! lol

    Just a quick update -

I emailed very detailed dimensions and pictures to a CNC shop to see how much they would charge to CNC, drill, bevel, round the plates + laser engrave the +/- below the terminals and VR3 - Fortress Edition at the top...

Assuming theres not to much stick shock I will most likely order 22 of these and I will offer them in the flea market as well to folks getting their gear modded...

Would be a huge improve over the stock terminal cups and would be very easy to transition over the stock crossovers (unmodded) to the aluminum plates :)

    Pretty excited!

It will be a drop in replacement for the crossovers, for those with stock depth mounts - I would include 4" threaded rods + nuts you would need to install, you would just have to attach your binding post!!

I think it will be pretty freakin sweet...

Should have 22 of these plates by the end of next week..

Will be CNC cut - all holes precise to line up with mounted the stock crossover boards with threaded rod that will actually thread through the plate into a button cup for the must durable construction possible...

It will be an exact drop in replacement for Polk RT/LSI - anything using the bi-wire terminal plates...

Will be laser engraved + I can obtain a personal engraved plate if you guys would want it...

But most importantly it will be a drop in replacement for any crossover - modded or not and would be something anyone can do.. :)

Also design it where it would work with a wide range of binding post however for super heavy duty you would have to enlarge the holes....

Since the price has not been posted here; could you float an approximate cost for the two drop in boards?

One plate will be $45.00 shipped/paypal with rods, button caps, nuts, new gaskets to seal them, everything you would need to mount the crossover.

Each additional plate would be $40.00

These are made right here in the states too :)

If you want the bottom engraving - it would be an additional $5.00 :)

Also for those that buy the plates - I would discount any mods you would want 30% on labor in the future... if you wanted to install these plates before them being modded...

They will be much stronger than their plastic counterpart since obviously they cant crack and it would provide a far more inert place in the enclosure wall over the plastic with better damping properties.

So $85 roughly for a pair of plates on top of the mods. Certainly be something very unique. I'm anxious to see the final look of the plates.

Most definitely - I will make an official post in the For sale section - my buddy is letting me borrow his RT55 - I will dissassemble the crossover and install the plates (take detailed picture instructions) and install them in his speakers and take finalized pictures... :)

The personalized plates will say the following if you guys opt to have them made - which they will also be aluminum and black text -

I already have one gentleman getting his CSiA6 done - his will say the following -

    Line 1: Polk Audio CSiA6
    Line 2: Clarity Cap Inside
    Line 3: Mox R: 2 Ohm 3.3 Ohm
    Line 4: Brian (Last name)

What exactly is the purpose of an engraved plate stating the obvious? and adding your name to something you'll sell in a couple years? I seem to be missing something here.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I personally feel it is a cool thing to do - the engraved plates can say anything and are optional as stated above...

Everything that is printed on the terminal plate would be laser engraved

Here is a mock up from the CNC shop

Hey guys, what did the Polk Team do wrong. Why is it necessary/desirable to re-design/re-manufacture these crossovers. If it is just cheap parts, which I think it is not, then you would be repairing the units. By modification you intend to change the design which if far more complex than just electronics in the crossover. Have the people from Polk R & D given some advise on the how, why. I've probably got this all wrong...have fun, I'll do mine next.

We do not change the design - only the parts.

The parts are indeed cheap, they cost pennies - imagine 1,000,000 times a dollar... ;) The average mods even for inexpensive parts is 50-100 a speaker... Polk can buy the parts they use for probably 2-3 dollars a speaker...

So yes they are inexpensive parts that work great for most people

Keep in mind they had a pricepoint they wanted to hit for the speakers. If they used more expensive parts, they cost more and people may not buy them due to the increase in cost.

Its like adding a supercharger, exhaust and intake to a car. Did it run just fine without them.... yes...... Does it run better with the new parts.... of course. Would everyone pay to have the supercharger, exhaust and intake standard, probably not.
