Has anyone ever replaced the cloth sides with hardwood?
Wondering how it would look.
If i redo the caps i am considering doing matching side panels.
Thoughts anyone?

I've actually thought about this as well. It would have to be some very nice wood with character for me to like it...Not sure if its even possible but something to think about.

Anything is "possible", try doing a mockup first to see if you like the look. I much prefer the "classic*" looks of my 1As over my SRSIIs. (*Fully covered with walnut veneer)

I was thinking of doing this with African Bubinga wood. Using this wood for the top and a strip down the sides. I think it would look nice. Below are a few examples of how it looks.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I love the "exotics", not crazy about their cost though. Sapelle is another nice one that has a similar look.

This is the place where I bought the wood for my speakers:

The piece I bought was 164" long by 15" wide by 1" thick, was the perfect amount for all the wood I needed for my 1.2tl's

    wow lots of great options.thanks

This might be a dumb question but would changing the side panels like that affect the sound? I am not too experienced with speaker acoustics and design.

well then, I say someone should try this. I think it would look very nice if done right. I have a pair of 2.3's in storage (that I cant use) I've been saving up parts for a complete upgrade. this is something I would love to add to the process if I could find a wood worker to help me. I'm not willing to risk doing it wrong, something to think about I guess.

I am a custom furniture maker. I use mostly highly figure maple. I would like to see how a set looks done. Sometimes the mods people do can look really good or might look really cheesey.

I agree, it may look cheesy if done wrong so I believe some research, thought, and design might be in line for this one...

How about a black walnut? Might have to change the end caps too.
