Sunfire 5/200 $750. The light is out. Runs good and cool. Great shape and I'll send it in the box from my 5/425. Manual is available online. Plus shipping and any and all other associated costs (Paypal fees). I want 750 in my pocket.

Adcom 5400/450pre $275. Pre is very limited but works well. No phono in. The Balance knob is a little scratchy. Amp is solid with a few marks from normal wear but nothing horrible, both are 7.5/10. Plus all associated shipping costs (Paypal fees) I want 275 in my pocket.

I will only take "I want it's" in THIS THREAD. No pm's unless stated intent here first. (Just trying to avoid some confusion)

Also I took it in the shorts from Paypal for the other sales. So it's all clear and understood...

ALL FEES ARE BUYERS EXPENSE.

I am very interested in the Adcom combination. I'm just going to do a little research on the 450 as I do not know too much about it. If someone snags it before me thats fine, just wanted to express serious interest.

No worries. I don't care for the pre either but just to be rid of it when the amp goes.

If I were you SDA, I'd go for the Cinema Grand Sig and save yourself $600.

There was an article regarding this very thing. in which, the author goes on to compare the two and describe the superior benefits of bi-amping with the cinema over using the 2ch. The basis of this, if i can remember it correctly, is that the capacitance and power available to the cinema is greater than the 2ch and available on demand to any channel, whereas the 2ch is limited (relative to it's multi channel brother).

As I understood it, the 5th channel, as well as any untapped reserves from the other channels, acts as a reservoir of current to be dispatched to wherever it is needed when arranged in this bi-amp setup. I know I am not doing the matter any justice with my terrible technical assessment, but hopefully that makes sense. Im going to see if I can track it down.

He's already got a sunfire signature if he wanted to play with it lol. He's got a cinema grand AND a cinema grand signature. Must be nice

Thanks Newrival but EndersShadow is correct. I am looking to compliment the front channels with a 2x600 completing the 7.1 that the TGP3 offers. I employ a 5/425 now (yes a 5/200 as well is for sale :) and would like to get ready for the 1.2 that are incoming.

Thanks for the consideration though it is appreciated.

I had a 600/2 and it is a great amp for sure, but I agree that another sig 5/400 or 425 is the better call here. The 600 is a brute, but somehow misses the mark for subtlety. Everything about the amp is for purely power's sake IMHO and it lacks musicality. It lasted a month in my rig after having it gone through by the good folks at Sunfire before I sold it and got another 5/425.

I have had 3 5/425's two 7/400's and the 600/2 in my rig and the 5/425 is far and away the best of the bunch.

***edit*** I failed to point out that I was running 1.2TL's at the time of the 600/2. I compared the 600 against a 5/425 set up in bi-amped mode and it was no contest. The 425 just sounded better top to bottom. Bass was un-naturally tight with the 600, mids were edgy, and the highs were way to crisp. These speakers had the RDO-198 replacements already, and they were as bright as could be with that amp.

The 425 on the other hand, was far more fluid and transparent. It just sounded "right".

That's good info to know. I assumed the 600/2 was the grand daddy for 2 channel.

    quick question John...
Is it fair to say the 5/425 has 2125@8 to split between 2 channels if that's the desired connectivity? Do I have to chain anything to get everything out of all 5?

    Not real clear there lol.
If i connect only two channels does it send EVERYTHING to those two?

From the back of the amp, you use a second set of RCA and connect the fronts to the rears, then use the top to run the mids/tweets and the rears for the lower mids and bass. In this configuration, the center is un-used. This would equal 800 combined power to the front's, and 1600wpc if the speakers are 4 ohm. My SDA 1.2TL's loved being bi-amped this way.

I will say that I wish I had the 600/2 back for my Maggie MG-20's. These speakers NEED that kind of power to come to life. I do think that when I get my Monoblocks back from Bob next month, I will be good to go in the power department for a very long time.

You got my number, so call me if you like.

I wondered about that. I know the Sunfire has the circuitry to send unused to the driven channels but to realize the full power output it seems Biamping is the answer.

I'm glad there are others that have observed the same traits as I have. I had a feeling there might be some resistance on my suggestion, as it seems counterintuitive. But the Cinema Grand (sig. or otherwise) is an often over-looked player in the 2ch world. And you cant beat not having to gain match

As an aside, I currently bi-amp my EP's with a sunfire cinema. I tried both the regular and the sig with almost no discernible difference. I attributed this to the high efficiency of the speakers (101db).

$750 is a good price but doesnt seem to be too far off from the going rate for units that havent been recapped on CL. At least as far as I've seen.

Could this be done with a non-signature model but with less power obviously and expect similar results of bi-amping in this method?

Yes it can, but the results will not be the same. The Sigs simply sound better.
