Diy sub again...

The last sub I built worked very well with a Dayton hpsa500 some mdf and a jvc arsenal 12. But after 6 months of continuous use. The jvc has crapped out on me and it will cost about $35 to ship it to them and I'm not sure it's worth the replacement. Lol. However I am left with this beast of a subwoofer amp and no driver. I really wanted to try something a bit more In depth like I saw earlier on here. A guy had a psw 202 and added 2 passive radiators plus a more powerful amp. So I have the amp. I need recommendations for a driver and the radiators. Budget is $150-200. Car subwoofers are acceptable. Just not the tacky ones. I also am also open to try multiple small subs possibly. Also any special deals you guys know about would be great! Thanks! -Adam

Spend a little more for this great combo: http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-10-subwoofers/seas-l26roy-10-subwoofer-d1001-04-4-ohm/ and http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-10-subwoofers/seas-sl26r-d1003-10-passive-radiator-mate-to-l26roy/"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Boston makes some similar

Those look pretty awesome. The Boston's are nice too... Budget is a big factor tho. As I am going to upgrade my receiver and possibly get some towers (Polk all the way of course). I've seen quite a few onkyo sr805's on Craigslist recently. Which will obviously cost about $250+. Has anyone had any luck with the Dayton passives? It's worth a shot right.TV- Insignia 46'' LED,1080p,120hz

The Dayton 18" Driver looks like a real deal for $125. A polkie named Zardoss had a sweet build last year I think.

That looks pretty awesome. And very affordable. What is the smallest enclosure for the 18. Could I get away with 3.5 cu ft sealed?TV- Insignia 46'' LED,1080p,120hz

Personally no hands on experience, but based on what I have read online, you may be able to use 3.5.
PartsExpress recommends 3.85 in a sealed box. -

Can't go wrong with TC Sounds. There's a big DIY world out there loving their subs. I would check out the DIY forum on AVS to get an idea of what DIYers are using and what they prefer. -
There are so many choices. I've really always wanted a large sub. Right now it is. Between the dayton 18. Dayton 15 plus a passive. And an HO Dayton 10 with 2 12" passives. All are under budget. Right now I'm leaning towards the 10 w passives bc the Xmax is greater. Either way I'm ordering something by Friday.TV- Insignia 46'' LED,1080p,120hz

The Dayton 18" is just so cool because, well, it is 18"!!!

That it is. But the huge enclosure needed is somewhat turning me off... Although it is something to show off. And the sr's are awesome looking subs. Another idea I had was an infinity kappa perfect vq 12. 350rms. Excellent sound quality. And plenty of excursion for HT. just finding one is a waiting game. Weighing all the options and size factors I am really thinking a single 15. Sealed. And maybe add a passive later. Just wondering. Since I saw no cheap 15" passives... Would it be stupid or counter productive to use 12" passives with a 15. Or should it be the same size or larger?TV- Insignia 46'' LED,1080p,120hz

A 15" should have two 15" PR's or a 18" PR."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

The TC Sounds subs look very nice too and at the price PE is selling them now seems like a steal to me.

I LOVE* Not like, not enjoy but LOVE! my LMS-R sub - it hits so freakin hard and low for HT but is smooth and loaded with tone for music...
Love it - that thing for what I can build it for is going no where, in my next system I build I plan to use it + one more I hope- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I'm using the Dayton 15 for my first (clueless) go. Building two simultaneously to learn and compare. One will be sealed, the other is a BIG ported box that should go pretty low. If I can find some cheap PR's I'll probably convert the lesser one. Picked this one anticipating both will eventually be sealed. Keep us posted, esp on any PR deals <snicker>. Ok so you guys will be slightly disappointed. But I bought 2 bazooka 10's 8ohm svc. Gonna wire them up at 4 ohms. And maybe add some passives later. They get here tomorrow. Wish me luck and I'll keep everyone posted. Pics to come soon!TV- Insignia 46'' LED,1080p,120hz
