Heard this on the 'Tube, then bought the CD from my local record shop. My search for perfect Prog is over. Simply. Utterly. Amazing.

(listen 'till at least :38)

The recording quality could be better but this whole album is ear candy.

What other prog rock do you have/like?

I always loved Rush but I also listen to DT, Opeth, a little Angra, Marillion. What really draws me in is how they integrate classical into the pieces. On track 10 of this album I'm hearing one of Bach's harpsichord concertos, I think. Hearing these guys, I'm wondering what other similar bands I've been missing. Suggestions?

A friend of mine at work has been feeding me some 'old' prog rock - Spocks Beard, Liquid Tension, Brand X, Atomic Rooster.

Some of it is pretty good, some isn't my cup of tea - but I'm always looking to expand my musical exposure and tastes.

Just checked a sampling of about twelve different tracks. Not really what I'm looking for, acquired or not. Thanks anyways.

Not bad musically, but definitely heavy on the synthesized instruments. Not that that's always a bad thing, but when it's this obvious, it's not good IMO. Need better synths. Or real instruments.

I noticed that right away but I overlooked it. The cost of real orchestral musicians for a young, up-and-coming metal band from Jersey would be way too much, back in 2000 when the album was released, anyways. I just think it's cool to see metal musicians paying tribute to classical in such a way. And tastefully done, mind you. I'm looking at their new offering, "Iconoclast," right now, which seems to have significantly higher production value and better mixing. Seriously considering seeing these guys when they come to NYC in March.

umm... based on this list, you're missing all of the original "prog rock" bands... Yes, King Crimson, ELP, Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), Starcastle :-) Crack the Sky :-)

I've listened to those bands for years. 'Specially Yes and Genesis. I've just been getting into newer stuff lately.

some of us were Baltimorons in a past life...

I am a big, big CTS fan - and I would call their rock and roll ambition "progressive" in the best sense of the word
Heh, listened to a few tracks from Safety in Numbers (which, admittedly, does not feature John Palumbo in its original version - but does include some of his fine songs) last night on vinyl, as a matta o' fact.

I just picked up a promo copy of Safety... at Planet Records in Harvard Square (Cambridge, MA) on Saturday. Not that I needed another copy, but couldn't pass up a "white label" in good condition when I saw it :-)
