New RTi12's with an issue...

Now I am new to all of this so it very well could be user error!

Here is the situation... Regardless of what Banana plugs I use or what thickness of wire I use... On of the speakers stops and starts working. If I do not use banana plugs and just stripped wire, no issues.

If I wiggle the wires I can get it to stop/start working... Went and got new wire And new Banana plugs... Same results...

Current Wire is 12-gauge Monster Cable with me placing Banana plugs on them. All my other speakers with the same Banana ends work flawlessly...

Is it me or do I have an issue with the speaker plugs?

When you say the speaker stops working, do you mean both the woofers and mid/tweeter sections cut out? Because I'd think that if it was a loose binding post connection to the crossover, then it wouldn't matter how you hooked it up. Where are you wiggling the wire at? If you move the banana plug around, is that enough to get it to start working again?

Yes, the tower stops working all together... I can repeat the issue over and over by lifting up on any wire (Does not matter) and the tower will shut off. Let the wire hang 50/50 it will work again. Press on the wire it works 100%

I removed both connections, hand tightened the nuts (BTW I have broken a lot of bolt heads in my day thinking they are not yet tight enough so I am doing a balancing act and trying to keep tools out of my hands =] ).

I tried one banana in the POS up top and the NEG below... No change.

The banana end itself is really tight... I had and have a very solid connection. In fact the first time I pressed it in it was a chore...

It is a poor connection inside the unit.

OK... So is is allowed (Warranty wise) for us to remove a woofer or the back plate (If I can, have not even looked at it yet) to look around and attempt a repair or do I need to contact Polk?

And thank you for all your help you two!

Originally yes, this is no longer the case. I was mistaken and it did fail this morning, last night I only tried a few times and this morning first try it did it as well. But I had to lift the wire a few inches where as the banana's only needed say 1/2'...

I just cannot edit my first post to correct the error I made.

It must be a loose connection inside then. I'm not the one to comment on taking it apart so maybe someone else will chime in.

If you call Polk on Monday, they'll probably tell you it's ok to open it up. Always best to call first. That way, if you run into problems, you're covered. That is, unless you're confident in your ability to open and close it without causing any further problems... Polk CS is outstanding. They'll fix you right up!

Well it seems I have a bad Banana Connector Jack. So I cut off the Banana ends and went back to bare wire, tightened then really good and the issue went away. Seems I did not tighten the bare wire well enough yesterday during my testing. So we will run the 12 gauge wire, bare at the speaker connection point. Thank you for all of your help =]
