Ron or others with a Mits. proj.
How do you remove the plexiglass screen
protector?
If you've done this, did you notice an improvement in clarity?

I have not taken mine off, I'm a little concerned about the screen getting damaged. I believe it just pops off.

Screen cleaner - no really. Found the the computer dept. mostly - WalMart even.
The Plexiglass on my RCA 52" does not seem like an easy job to take off.
I know that taking it off would reduce glare among other things.
It is there for kiddie protection.

    Luc,
    check out this site:

    http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/experttips/mrbob/mrbob_tips.html

it might have info specific to this, and if not, post on their forum. Somebody here bound to have a step-by-step instructions for your mits.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

You do get an improvement in picture quality. Just make sure you realize just what it is your doing. Shield replacement $100-150, Screen replacement $450-825. If you have kids or large pets I would keep the sneeze guard on.

kids are big enough to know better.
windex sucks for cleaning the plexiglass,
    get less streaks with water.
guess I'll have to consult the manual,
as scott said, it doesn't appear to be that easy to remove.

where's mr. driftwood theater these days?

ClearGuard is good for use on plexiglass. It is a ammonia free, silicon based glass cleaner. I have used it on my tinted windows, for about 10 years, per manufacturers suggestion a long time ago.

I use Cinch instead of windex, it doesn't streak as bad.

Not only has my daughter scratched my screen but she just trashed (and I mean TRASHED) the tweeter in my RT55i surround. She is very efficient in demolition and costing me a ton of money but she is my little Peanut;) so what can I do.

I know I need to call polk about the tweeter but where do I find glare screens for a Sony 57"?

    Thanks

Luc, the protective screen has a slight purple tint to it, take it off. I had mine off for over a year, had the theater full of 3-5 year olds, they all understood not to touch and none ever did. They do know better even at the early ages.

It's been awhile so forgive me if I don't remember the details. Remove the speaker grill under the screen. Unscrew the 4 screws that hold the screen on, pull screen towards you from the bottom and then lift off. I believe there are screws on the inside of the frame, remove those and use a flat head screw driver and in the two top corners pop the corner braces of the frame apart. Each corner has a coupler that holds the vertical and horizontal frame pieces together. Remove the corner braces from the vertical side pieces by sliding upwards. It might be tough as they are locked in fairly tightly. Be careful not to scratch the frame. Once you pull the top off, slide out the glare screen and reassemble. There are 3 pieces to the screen, make sure you do not take apart, remove or touch the other two screens and when you reassemble the frame make sure the other two screens fit back into their original pockets.

It's simple, just take your time and enjoy the better picture. It makes a noticeable difference. I've got more info at home that I can check on. If you have any problems.

Sounds a little involved, but as with most things, probably pretty straight forward once you get into it.
I looked at your showcase, looks like your mits. has been replaced.
Probably makes one hell of a bedroom tv.

Actually, I sold off the Mits to a neighbor. The only reason I remember how to remove the glare screen is because I had to put it back on for the buyer. The coin from the Mits went towards the projector.

    Try here Henry:

    http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/web/index.jsp

You should call them, they do not list everything supported on the website. If this gets you nowhere, check out www.agoraquest.com , it is the unofficial Sony website. They have an active forum.

Ron, you went to a terrible amount of extra effort to get the glare screen off. It's actually very easy. Using your fingers or a putty knife to get it started, simple pry the plastic bezel strips out towards the center of the screen (not up, but laterally). Bow it out in the center at the top and it pops right out.

Had mine out a couple of times, but it made the red push more obvious. Have little ones too, but they know to stay out of the "no zone".

Didn't know that. The ISF tech did the removal way back when the TV was calibrated. I just had to put it back on when I sold it.

Have you considered a red-push attinuator for your component connection? For about $15 bucks, it is worth it. Can't use it for anyother inputs but for DVD, it works excellent.

Yes, I built the homemade Rat Shack version about a year ago; it is in use on my DVD feed. Still need to build another for the STB, but so many of the channels are bad in other ways, especially compression. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Guys-

I haven't heard about these. Where do you get one and how is it hooked in?

You can't buy them at store's, but you can buy the parts at radio shack and build it. Or, you can go over to hometheaterspot.com and for about $20 a guy (can't remember his name) will build one for you.

They go inline on the red component cable. All it does is cut down on the red color to balance it out.

I guess now, if you get an ISF calibration, the techs can go in via computer and turn the red down for all inputs, where as the attenuator is only good for the component connection.
Still need to build another for the STB
I don't believe you can, the red color is not 'broken out' from the rest of the color spectrum. Adding one to any other source and you'll cut back more than just the red.

Hmmm...now me confused. I've always been under the impression you could use one attenuator per input.
