general adcom pre question

I read somewhere that adcoms have relatively puny power supplys, transformers, whatever they are called, and that is one of the culprits to people who dont care for their sound.
I have a gtp450 now, that i will be trying to replace at some point in the near future.
Question, for same price range, are there better choices for a pre with defeatable tone, phono, and 3 channel would be nice, but not mandatory.

A couple that come to mind that you might find within your budget, Hafler SE100,which has a very nice discrete fet gain stage ,Superphon Revelation mk11 or 111,which is also a discrete fet design,or Bryston .5B . -
I just picked up a B&K Reference 20 to use as a pre. It has excellent SQ and can be picked up for a very small amount of coin compared to some other pre's out there. Sure it's not a 2-channel only pre but it can be placed in pure direct mode to bypass the HT processor section. No phono stage though.____________________________________________________________

Thanks guys, good info and kinda what i thought.
Sold a marantz sr 8000 rec. here that i wish i had back.
Even though it was an avr, it was an awesome avr, and just kicked this adcoms boop.
Had some marantz ma 500s working with it.
If my pending purchase of some speaks here goes through, i will concentrate on selling some speaks, and putting cash towards a better pre.
What is your opinion of the gfa5400s i own, I know they arent top o line, but i think with a better pre, might be a good building block.humpty dumpty was pushed
