setting up 6.1 system need advice
My current system is lsi15 + lsic run off an emotiva xpa - 5 and i'm using a yamaha rxv667 for processing and hdmi switch. I have my older monitor 70s that i use for surrounds and they sound fantastic (also connected to the emotiva)
So that's my 5.1 I'm getting a CS2 for $35. Should I use that as a rear? The front three are lsi and the surrounds will be monitors. I have the room and wiring already. So can i run just the CS2 off the rxv667?
Last question is it okay to run 3 lsi 4 ohms and 2 monitor 8 ohms off the xpa 5?
Thanks in advance

that's why im asking, i've read all over the the polk and other forums people using the monitor 70's as surrounds for both the rti and lsi series, i i was wondering if the same were true for a rear channel. i was thinking of putting another lsic in the rear but the price difference is $400 compared to $35. so is it worth 10x's the price for the black sea caviar in the back?

Honestly I wouldn't even worry about 6.1. IMHO, the difference is negligible. Most movies are recorded and shows broadcast in 5.1 anyways. The effects that you gain with 6.1 and 7.1 setups are up for debate, but I honestly haven't felt the need to ever add another speaker or two just for the sake of having it.Shawn

6.1 is outdated and i wouldn't waste your time, i'll take a quality 5 channel system anyday.

Though 5.1 purists will try to tell you otherwise, there actually is a ton of 6.1 content, because the vast majority of movies since the year after Phantom Menace were mixed with theatrical EX in mind. However, 6.1 in the home presents its own problems, particularly psychoacoustic reversal of sounds emanating from directly behind you from a single point source in a small area. 7.1 in the home solves this problem by making rear surround sound come from more than one source, eliminating the chance of psychoacoustic reversal. So technically, 6.1 is not outdated... since damn near every modern 5.1 track is mixed for theatrical EX, even when the bitstream isn't flagged as such at home (and they almost never are on Blu-ray anyway, with a few exceptions).
But with theatrical 7.1 becoming the standard, I'd say hold off until you can go full-on 7.1. This solves the reversal problem with 6.1 tracks and lets you play the native 7.1 tracks that are coming out now (which are pretty damn fantastic, if I do say so).Equipment list:
