Soundbar 42 front-only connections?

Hi, I'm interested in one of the Surround Bar models like the 42" unit without subwoofer, etc. I have a powered subwoofer already and two good sattelites I'd like to use for the rear. I see it has connections for front left, right and surround left, right. Can I connect the front left and surround right in parallel, and do the same to the front right and surround right? The description online refers to the SRS technology, I didn't know if that would have an effect.
Thanks,
Andrew

Ah, that would make me crazy to have those drivers going un-used! It's like using only 60% of the capability. I'm imagining the unit is essentially five discrete speakers (drivers, crossovers) sharing a cabinet. I just don't know if the "SRS Technology" has anything going on electrically between the units.
    Thanks,

I would suggest you just leave the surrounds connections on the bar disconnected (open) and use the bar for its front and center imaging. It should work fine.
that would be a big waste of money, that is the point of paying for speakers and not using them?

The Surround Bar uses SDA technology which mimics 5 SRS arrangement so the rear could not be used as fronts due to the inside electronics (special Xo and inversion signal) that creates the surround effect.

    or go 7.1
This is IMO the best solution since you would be using the SDA mimic effect for the surround and your satellite for the rear. For content that has 7.1 (rare at this point), you would be covered with this arrangement and for any 5.1 content the surround and rear would carry the exact same audio signal.

... In any case, I would not run drivers in parallel on the bar as that would present a fairly difficult load to the receiver.
The SB42 speakers can be runed in paralell no issue as the Xo provides for High impedance input as metioned by Polk CSR when I approached them on this subject in either 2007 or 2008.
