Connecting TSi100 to macbook pro

Hello,

I recently acquired a set of TSi100 bookshelf speakers and would like to connect them to my macbook pro laptop. Im looking for a relatively inexpensive and simple setup. I have very little experience with speakers but from some quick google searches it appears I need to buy a receiver to power the speakers. If this is correct, what kind of receiver do I need? Also, would an external sound card work to power the speakers? From some basic research they seem to be much cheaper and simpler than receivers but I'm not sure if one would work for what I need. Are there any other options for what I need?

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Marvin

You need a way to power those speakers and a computer won't do that, hence a receiver. Depending on your needs or future upgrades you may have in mind, many are available at many different price points, new or used, from brands like Pioneer, HK, Onkyo, to name a few.

Your other option is to buy self powered speakers made for computers.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
    lsi 9's
