Hi, I am planning to get the onkyo tx nr609 and use monitor 70s for front and the cs2 for center. I need help deciding what to use for surround. I was thinking about the RM8 speakers as they are small and I don't want huge book shelf speaker.
At the end of the day it is about good sound so please advise if the RM8 speakers are good enough or if I should go with book shelf speakers or please suggest something different.
This is for a home theater in my basement and the area is about 20'x 11'.
Also I would like to let u know that the rear speakers will be on the back wall with the back sofa against it.

Hey Harshz, welcom to Club Polk. If your surrounds are going to be on the wall with the sofa against it, I would recommend something from the FXi line. I have a similar setup, with my couch against the back wall, and my FXiA6's perform amazingly well, much better than the bookshelves I was using previously. Maybe an older model would be good for you, or even something newer like the FXiA4 or FXi3. Since the speakers won't really be behind you, you're better off with a bipole/dipole speaker that will give you a wider dispersion of sound. I'm afraid that with RM8's, it will be pretty easy to hear the location of the speaker, which isn't something you want with rears. Look on Polkdirect's ebay store for some good deals on some factory refubs.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

There's not much to choose from at polkdirect right now except these white FXiA4's and a pair of LSiFX, which wouldn't fit in with your current rig. Keep an eye out in the classified section of this forum too. It seems like there's always a set for sale in there. Enjoy,

Are you going for a 5.1 or 7.1?
If 7.1, I would advise against the 609 and m70s, as I doubt it will push that kind of a load adequately. Even in 5.1 mode, that avr will be strained with m70s, but you can make that work by adding a nice sub, and taking some of the load of the low frequencies off the speakers.
I agree that fxia is a good option. M30s also make a nice surround speaker in this case.
If you budget can stretch, look into rtia5, nice sub and fxia. This is something the 609 will power no problem.Living Room 7.1 HT Rig:
