RTiA9 placement - distance from back wall ?
Hi all,
I've read somewhere else that, to improve the acoustics in a room (sound expansion), it is important to leave some space between the main speakers and the back wall.
Please, does it make any sense ? Can`t I put the RTiA9`s as close as possible (actually touching) the back wall ?
Thanks a lot,
Mongo

I believe the 9's have a power port in the back that when placed up against the wall will make for some bloated boomy bass. If you need a speaker to be placed against a wall, probably best to get one with ports in the front alone. Anything with rear ports will need to be away from the wall or from an enclosed space.HT SYSTEM-

For what it's worth- I have my A7s (similar design to A9 w/ rear port) within a few inches from the wall and can report no unpleasent boominess in the bass- which is as deep and tight as could want. I hate boomy sounding bass. Of course a lot also depends on EQ/ loudness comp settings.Main:

My A9's are 8" off the back wall from the back of the speaker. I can't pull them out any more. I quite enjoy the sound at that distance.

Everyone's room is different, pull them out a couple inches at a time and see how it sounds to you. Use the same track of music as a comparison, something with some lower bass notes in it.HT SYSTEM-

My A7s are about 6" from the front wall.

Yeah mine are about 6" from the front wall too - but the entrance to the living room is right next to the front right speaker.
Doesn't the back plate of the power port that redirects air to the sides negate the need for moving the speakers out more?ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

I dunno if it negates it all together, sure that plate helps some though. The only way to find out is to experiment a few inches at a time and see if the sound changes.HT SYSTEM-

Can maybe put an acoustic panel on the wall behind your speakers to absorb some of the energy..?"I did not slap you. I high-fived your face."
-
Thanks to everybody that replied, mine are more or less 6" from the wall, since there`s no straight forward cake recipe, I'll probably keep it like that;
Thanks,

Are you able to bring them out more? How far from the side walls? Experiment. Try bringing it out 2 inches at a time and see if you like or dislike the changes IF you have the room.
-
Just FWIW the purpose of the powerport design is so boundaries do not affect the bass - hence why Polk mount them on bookshelves and integrates it as a wallmount...
You should be able to put them right up on the wall with very little negative effects..- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
