Breaking back into car audio. And needing suggestions. This time I'll take them :-)

For the longest time I havent cared bout my car audio. Mostly in part cuz I didnt know what I was doin and didnt wanna listen to what ppl were tellin me. So I guess u could say this is my chance at redemption lol. I've got an Alpine 9831 installed right now and I've got a set of Boston Acoustics Pro 50 SE that I haven't installed yet. I should prolly post this on CAF but they're morons over there sorry. These guys here are much better EQ'ers and less prejudicial.

Don't ask me why but I'm hooked on the Bostons and ya like what ya like. What do ya do? Anyways...I've got a few months to completely plan this out RIGHT. This is gonna be an Income Tax project so while I'm not goin radical I'm not gettin anything cheap. I've actually got a pretty good (or so I think) grocery list.

Of course I've already got my head unit and my 5.25 comp are pretty much on the way. And from there I'm thinkin:Alpine PDX-F6 bi-amped for the Bostons. Installing JUST the comps and PDX and giving them ample time to break in. From there thinking of gettin another SPG this time in a the ported box instead of sealed and gettin a PDX M12 hooked up to it.

So there it is. It's a work in progress this is all goin in a 97 Thunderbird 4.6L V-8. Obviously the comps are here to stay but the sub and amps are still a rough draft, like I said this is an income tax project. Also it's not an overnighter deal either where I flat out buy everything at once and run into the same problems I did last time. I'm takin my time and truly learnin as I go. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Another thing after I put my comps in how many layers of Dynamat should I put on the doors and would be the speaker kit with door kit be redundant? Well thanx everybody for takin the time to read this. I know nothing's gonna happen for a few months but this is a completely serious project.

I've got a suggestion for ya. Don't mount your subs into the back seats. lol

I used to own a thunderchicken at one point. Loved that car, and should have keep it, but I was wanting a new car. Oh well hind sight is always 20/20. I would get the PDX amps for that car. They are small, and since space might be an issue in that car (depending on where the amps go) you can put them under your seats, or in the trunck some where by the subs, or whereever. As for dynamat, one layer should be fine. Unless you want more, which is fine in all, but adds weight to the car. Which already a tank lol, so it may not matter.

Yeah I was pretty set on the PDX amps. I've owned them before and I totally loved them. I was just gonna see if I was gonna get any other suggestions on maybe better SQL amps but I think I get both of those and I won't need to upgrade for a loooong time to come. What bout the sub though? I had the 555 in a sealed box and liked it but blew due to inexperience. I'd kinda like to see what proper tuning and in ported enclosure would sound like. I'm thinking I'll like it. But another alternative I have thought about would be either 2 IDQ 12's or 2 IDMAX 12's. That PDX would put out 600 per sub if I'd opt for dual subs. Would that be enough to push 2 Image Dynamics though? Overall I'm thinking I'm pretty solid on my choices. I still would like some ideas on wiring.

I don't know much about Image Dynamics, but I have read many, many reviews that say they are really good, and sound good too. As for the PDX M12 fitting the bill power wise, I would venture to say that you would be just fine. In fact I will be getting the M12 my self here soon to power to SR 12's. Which are 700 RMS a piece, but since I will never turn mine up to the max the M12 is good. I mean you can not really go wrong with the PDX amps as far as size, and efficiency go. Look at Kicker's ZX1000.1 amp. That thing is beast as far as size goes. Alot of the companies out there also have big amps when you get the 1,000 watt range. However with alot of the companies following Alpines lead they are now starting to produce smaller, and smallers amps as well. So, it is a little bit of a toss up sometimes. As for me all my stuff is going into a 06 tacoma access cab, so space is limited for me just a bit which is why I went with the PDX amps.

Out of the two you have listed. I would go with this choice. The reason for it mainly is you will get the wirining you will need to power the subs. However if you already have the wire then go with the other. Granted it is a little cheeper which is good, and I dont see you losing any SQ with the other set up either.

Getting close to installing my Bostons. And tax time is right around the corner and I'll be installing my 4 channel as well. I'm starting to have anxiety as the time gets closer. I'm still pretty comfortable with the PDX but in my research I'm looking at more expensive amps. So I've noticed the Rockford T1000-4D. Would that be overkill? I really liked the PDX I used to have before my "buddy" stole it...long story, so that's why I'm partial to the PDX for all my amplifiers. And if I not get the aforementioned package deal would a 1,200 Alpine watts be enough for 2 IDMAX's? Was also thinking maybe later on down the road after I got subs and comps fully broke in adding another Alpine 1200 watter. And since I'm pretty intent on going with 2 IDMAX's I was looking at Image Dynamics comps and came across the XS-65's. Never heard them but have had the Bostons at one time and loved them. Still got more time to do my homework though, that is the good thing.

Also...if I don't go with the IMDAX's the only other alternative I would consider would be this Boston SPG555 in a ported box Damn man....decisions,decison lmao
