I know many may not have heard of it, but i bought a setten 3300 receiver, 70s era off cl yesterday.
hooked it up, played fine except for the scratchy cutting out behavior from function knob and volume and such we all know from this type of gear.
Think pio sx1050, 125 watts a channell, even has much the same look, as the company was started by a pioneer engineer or executive to create quality gear to compete with said gear of that era.
Well, i bought some radio shack contact cleaner while waiting on my deoxit to arrive via amazon, sprayed down the pots and circuit boards, everywhere i could get to.
Now its in protection mode, if volume is turned way up, you can hear very low music coming through.
Have let it sit a couple hours in the shop to dry out, also removed fuse from my adcom amp, even though the one in the setten looks to be okay, and will replace it, i mean what the hell.
I have read in the past about other members gear going into protection mode, and i seem to remember different advice and levels of concern, based on what gear was being discussed.
If anyone has tips or experience to share, please do.
will be posting pics soon.

Setton; it was a French-based company that came a little too late for the 1970s hifi boom. Pierre Cardin did the industrial design. Pretty nice stuff. there's some Setton info at The Vintage Knob www.thevintageknob.org
The 3300 appears to be an integrated amp, not a receiver.
Go on over to www.audiokarma.org and search through posts on the Settons there; I've never owned one so I really don't have much to offer. The pot cleaning and the protection problem might be coincidental, though. -
I guess the most obvious would be that after you sprayed the cleaner, you turned on the receiver before it was all dry. Hopefuly a fuse just blew, but it is possible something else was shorted.HT SYSTEM-

I have a bad feeling tonyb might be right, will go back today, but if it was fuse, wouldnt it just not power up?
The damn slotted fuse cap cracked when i tried to replace it last night, I checked it and the fusewire looked brown but it was solid and glass was not discolored.
Will have to find some very small tipped needle nose to try to remove cap and try a new fuse.humpty dumpty was pushed -
setten is at the battered women and childrens shelter thrift store, and 30 of my dollars are out the proverbial window.humpty dumpty was pushed
