Can I pick up a good Fluke Multimeter to measure DCR for around $300?? Or another brand that might be just as good? Any model # or link would be great.

Thanks!!

I'm really fond of my Fluke 88; although it's an older one (current version is 88 Series 5, or V) Had some problems with it a few years ago, which turned out to be flaky test leads--must have a poor internal connection. New test leads instantly eliminated the screwy readings.

List price is astronomical, discount price is within your limit if you buy the meter and test leads but not the rest of the automotive-specific "kit" which includes an inductive spark probe and a temperature probe among other niceties.

This meter is intended to be automotive-intensive; will have a bunch of test capabilities you won't need if you don't plug it into an ignition system. If you're not going to use it for automotive stuff, you could probably spend less for a more suitable unit.

The only way I'd give this one up is if I replaced it with the Series 5.

A nice feature of both my original 88 and (I'm pretty sure) the 88V is the ability to measure low ohms--tenths of an ohm.

I picked up an excellent condition Fluke 178 off eb for $160. It still had the protective plastic film over the display, was recently calibrated and came with a nice leather case and leads. There are deals out there.

I got my Fluke 117 at Sears ($180). They stock a couple Fluke multimeter models that are slightly less expensive, too.
