Ripping Software for MAC OS

I just bought an IMac (no groans please:big grin:) for my office rig (pics will be posted at a later date). I want to try a different ripping software other than iTunes. From the little research I did, most ripping software is developed to run on Windows OS and I would prefer not to install Windows on my MAC. Any suggestions for ripping software other than iTunes?.

I use XLD for ripping and flac to aiff conversation. I have not tried MAX but have read good things. TAS rated iTunes pretty low for ripping sound quality.
Amarra and PureMusic also rip beyond their intended use.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)
Preamp: Joule Electra LA-150 MKII SE
Amp: Wright WPA 50-50 EAT KT88s
Analog: Marantz TT-15S1 MBS Glider SL| Wright WPP100C Amperex BB 6er5 and 7316 & WPM-100 SUT
Digital: Mac mini 2.3GHz dual-core i5 8g RAM 1.5 TB HDD Music Server Amarra (memory play) - USB - W4S DAC 2
Cables: Mits S3 IC and Spk cables| PS Audio PCs -
I know you said you don't want to install Windows, but I'd highly recommend you reconsider that. Sooner or later you'll likely come across something that will either need Windows or (in this case) need a functionality that has a wider selection of applications on Windows. You can find a program for Mac for almost anything you need, but why go through the hassle if you can just install Windows on your Mac.
You don't have to use Bootcamp either (I don't because it's too much of a hassle to manage multiple boot partitions). You can get something like Parallels and run Windows right there inside your Mac OS and it works beautifully, will even do a respectable job at gaming. With parallels you can even launch Windows apps right from OSX and it's completely seamless.
I run Windows in Parallels and do all my ripping and tagging of files there, there are just many more tools that are more flexible and better suited for the job on Windows OS. I also do all my DVD ripping in Windows, although I'm hearing there's now a version of DVDFab for Mac. -

Check out the Audio Circle web site. Look in the "Apple Core" or "discless" circles. Lots of info there. Also, check out Audio Asylum. Happy hunting.

Thanks for the suggestions. Can you explain what you mean by " Amarra and Pure Music rip beyond their intended use".
I also read one of your previous posts and you said you were using Amarra. Do you use XLD to rip and Amarra for music playback?
Thanks,

Thanks for the input. I have used parallels on a MAC Book Pro that I had in the past (Until my wife dropped it). It worked fine but I am trying to keep my new iMac as a pure music server and casual web surfing only. I'd prefer not to muck it up with too much unneeded software.Rig1 - Totem Hawks, Benchmark HDR, Parasound A21, Sonus, Samsung 52 LCD, Audioquest Type4

Thanks - I checked out the audio circle website. The Apple Core circle had some good stuff and it appears that a new release of Pure Music has just been released. I just downloaded the free demo version to check it out.Rig1 - Totem Hawks, Benchmark HDR, Parasound A21, Sonus, Samsung 52 LCD, Audioquest Type4

I prefer dbpoweramp over anything else, mainly due to the accurate rip feature, so that I know I'm getting but perfect rips of all my music

From what I read dbpoweramp is the gold standard software for ripping. Unfortunately a MAC version does not exist. I was informed of a product called XLD for ripping software in the MAC environment. From what I read it is a pretty good piece of software and touts bit perfect rips. It also verifies it rips against a database called "Accurate Rip Database" to ensure its accuracy. On the surface it appears to be a pretty good alternative for MAC users.

CCNJ - I too am a Mac user and am very interested in your research. How did the XLD software work out?
