For an extra $375, you can get a pair of like brand new factory refurb LSi15s from Polkaudio- delivered. No chips, marks, nicks nor torn grilles AND they're cherry to boot. Plus 2 year warranty. Just the better way to go IMHO.Main:
McIntosh: MC 2155, MC 2125(x2), MR 80, C 32, MQ 101; Snell J7; Polk: RTiA7, RTiA9;
Pioneer PL-518; A/T 440 MLa; Yamaha CD
Vintage:
McIntosh: MX110Z, MC 2505, MC 240, Thorens TD 145; Shure V15III; Altec 14, Boston T1000; Yamaha CDX 393 CD; Yamaha Cass -
As far as these versus the refurb, I just don't think they're in the same category.
1) I actually prefer the ebony
2) I don't mind a few cosmetic blemishes; it gives them character
3) That extra $375 is actually a price increase of 75%, which is quite significant. Maybe you have a lot of extra money laying around, but I sure don't, and I suspect many others here don't either.
If they were near me, they would be mine already. -
That $375 dollars would add a fairly nice amp too allow you too run those speakers the way they should be.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

Perhaps I should've put it differently. Judging what mint condition brings as compared to equipment that has significant signs of wear/damage etc, the ratio of value in this particular case seems to be off. From where I stand, marks and chips and a torn grille on a relatively late model speaker (not to mention the unknown of if they had been abused) constitute major issues. Given that a basically new pair can be had for $875, these speakers should be priced closer to $300 rather than $500. Plus, when you factor in shipping and the 2 year warranty on the reburb speakers- the $500 price seems all the more disproportionate.
As to the issue of black vs cherry- that is a matter of personal preferance however, cherry units generally command a premium over black versions in the marketplace based upon what I've observed.
