This looks like a nice little demo program for the Mini Maggie system. I might even contact my local dealer to see if they are planning on getting a set of the Mini Maggies in....
Thought I would mention it to the rest of you guys if your looking for something interesting for your near-field listening

LOL....its your fault.
I LOVE the MMG's but dont have the space for them and do mostly nearfield listening in the office so those are just begging me to try them.
ONLY concern is that I dont think my HK3490 will be able to handle the dips in ohm load I am sure are there so I would need a dedicated amp. I am normally listening at -35 (out of -80) with my Monitor 60's and they are about 2 feet from me on either side. I also am curious if they still need to be a couple feet out from the wall which creates a problem for me. I can just about touch the back wall from my desk as its butted right up against the wall."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." They image very well from a desktop, and don't have the space needs of the floorstanding MMG's. They also have better bass. The HK should be no trouble for making them work very well for a nearfield experience.

In my experience with maggies, they can sound great in all sorts of positions. While it's very true that placement alters how they sound quite dramatically, they won't sound bad in a non-optimal position.
Get 'em!
I also agree with John that your HK will drive them just fine. Of course they'll respond any upgrade upstream, but that receiver won't have any problems driving them.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Damn. Time to get a second job lol"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I have looked at these and would love a set. Perfect size for my desk. My maggie dealer here has a set of the 3.X series in there showroom and that's it. It's quite sad. I wonder how much they are. I would consider them if they were reasonable.

I believe the 3-piece set has a MSRP of 1490.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

3 piece? I should re-read the ad. But what's the third piece? I'll place a call to my local dealer and ask what the price is up here.
Edit: I must have been drunk cause everything was clearly in the ad. ..back to our regular programming now. -

That is why they let you take them home for a proper evaluation. Hearing them in a soundroom at a dealer would be akin to test driving a Ferrari without leaving the parking lot. What dealer would that be? Shelley's Audio is the only dealer within a hundred miles of me. Live in the SFV? we should get together soon if thats the case.:cheesygrin:The Gear... Well, I took two pairs of Maggies home. The 1.7's and MG12's. Just ain't my cup of tea. I heard everything Stereo Design stocks, even the big boys in the Maggy line and just wasn't "feelin" it.
BUT, I guess I should have kept my opinion to myself. Certainly not my intention to take a dump on the OP's thread. -
You are entitled to state your opinion, even if it sucks!
I gues I am in Maggie-heaven at the moment. I have the MG-20's playng tonight at low volume. They really need to have a liberal use of the volume knob to open up. I would love to unleash the beast, but I think the neighbors would be here with pitchforks. The Gear... Hehe. Forget the neighbors, I'm more scared of my wife! -

I think it's good that you let us know that you just don't like Maggies in general. It would have been a different sentiment altogether if you loved most Maggies but disliked these particular mini Maggies because it would imply that they are somehow inferior or lacking the Maggie magic compared to the other models, but since you don't like any Maggies, your opinion shouldn't weigh in on the OP's decision about this specific pair of mini Maggies because EndersShadow admittedly loves Maggies.
I'd like to hear you compare the mini Maggies to the MG-12's or 1.7's, even if you didn't like them, it could give people who do like them a sense of how they stack up to one another.
I would think that the mini's would be sweet, given that they use the "true ribbon tweeter" like the 3.x series uses, not the quasi ribbon like in the 1.x's and MG's.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Yeah, I do indeed love the Maggies. I just wish they had more visceral bass, but honestly I cant enjoy that in an apartment anyway. I am thinking these might be the perfect office speakers even after I get a dedicated 2 channel room.
I will be calling my local hi-fi store to see if they happen to have a pair so I can go see them. Not sure I want to demo them as then I might be selling body parts on CL to make up funds..... anyone know the going rate for a kidney, or how many times I would need to donate blood to save up"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
And I just realized that if I use the HK to drive them I have 2 sub outs I can use to get that bass that I like ...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." So I called my local dealer. Was told that their still up in the air for whether or not they will bring this product in because of the strict setup that needs to be adhered to for these. As far as price, I was quoted $1699 but they were unsure. Supposed to have a final total and decision by today.
