honest review of my speakers

Hi guys,I've owned this set for over a year now and I was just wondering if anyone else has had experience w/ these speakers. They are a set of pristine refoamed Infinity SM112s.I got these off of c/l from a very desperate guy who had to go back to Europe the next day for a job posting. These have the bull nose front on all sides a 10in
woofer a mid and an adjustable tweeter all on a built in 1/2in riser. The veneer as I said was pretty dead on perfect and I think I probably nicked it some in my picking them up to move.I did call Infinity who is now owned by Harmon
and they said they were made around 90-91 and went for about $400 each at that time. The reviews on Audiokarma
were ok but some said it was lacking in the bottom end which I do not agree with. You will see my gear and yes I would love to have a set of Ohm/Waslh 2s but $ and apt consraints will prevent this.So any opinions on these speakers and for the ridiculous price of $40(I did say he was deperate) clearly it would take another fantastic deal to top these. No golden ear here to me w/ my all ss gear I think the combo of all works and now works well.

Happy New Year! -
Anyone who called these OK was being generous, I'd opine :-(
They are pretty bare bones. They are fairly sensitive, though.
$40 is on the high end of a fair price for those in this day and age. -
LW, why make another thread asking the same question? Seems you are trying to make yourself like these speakers. Apparently you are not sure if you like them or not! As said, those are pretty bottom of the barrel for anything Infinity ever made, IMO. To me, those are like Cerwin-Vega's. Party speakers that I would not feel bad about blowing up......power wise or with a 12-gauge shotgun.--Gary--
Onkyo Integra M504, Bottlehead Foreplay III, Denon SACD, Thiel CS2.3, NHT VT-2, VT-3 and Evolution T6, Infinity RSIIIa, SDA1C and a few dozen other speakers around the house I change in and out. -

Stop worrying about what others think of you stuff. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

yea of course your right. the thing that got me on these was the build quality the bull nose the veneer and of course the price.I'm astounded that none of are as shocked as I was at a $40 price tag,but they are indeed entry level for the SM line and for sure they're are way better speakers out there but at what price. This the determining factor for me until the perverbial ship comes in.Thanks for the honest asessment I'm a big boy.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

My 5B's cost me $30 and they are a much, much, much better speaker.

Don't get caught up in the name Infinity and listen to them for what they are. You have said it yourself. They are entry level.
Not the worst speaker in the world but there are many better alternatives.
If you want an awesome alternative look around for some Monitor 7's or 10's and you will be amazed at what you weren't hearing from those SM112's.
If you enjoy them SM112's then rock on and enjoy them.
Your barking up the wrong tree if you think any of us will be floored by them. -
Joe's got a point. But so does Tonyb--they're your ears, after all!
All I can say is that even on a vintage receiver (Marantz 2265) my Monitor 10As are "really" something!
$30 dollars for M5bs...let's not get carried away, that's a rare find for that price, pretty much in the "steal" category. Most people will "not" find that kind of deal.
Enjoy what you have, who cares what everyone else thinks. Any time you can get a decent set of speakers for less than 50..you've done good. I got my B.A. A100s for about $60 and I was delighted with that price!

Very true, bought them from a Polkie and with RD0's and x-over mods, Larry's rings, I have about another $180 in them for a grand total of ~ $210
The point is these can be refreshed/modded for even better performance. Can't say the same for the SM line, or most lines of budget oriented speakers.
Polk has a way of making affordable speakers that sound better than anything else in it's class and in most cases another level above. I recently purchased a pair of mid 90's RT25i's. Wow what a great sounding small bookie. Soon to give my review before and after x-over mods. I honestly wasn't expecting much and I have been very, very pleasently surprised at how good these RT25i's can sound in a small room w/nice gear. Impressive, in some cases like life-like vocals, they may even better the M5's.
