Hay Islander, jim in garson here, nice to see a fellow polky so close. Hope you have a good New year to you and yours.
Happy new year main lander!
Hey, quick question jimsvm ... do you know if there is a Sudbury area audiophile club? I was wondering about how that would be a great way to hear different gear and hang with people with similar interests. I forgot to ask at Professional sound if there is anything like that. -
As an add on to my comfort with purchasing used speakers which as one previous poster said is 'simple' I am less comfortable with buying electronics used. Without any experience hearing different brands and varying levels of electronics (high to higher end) I am not sure what purchase would be worth it. Thats why I wish more people were into the hobby locally.
Ill see some older McIntosh stuff on Audiogon that is somewhat affordable and wonder ... hmm I wonder how that would sound, but am hesitant to drop the coin without having the experience and having so many competing plans for my home theater (projector, better sub) I am hestant to dive in. Any thoughts? -
Yeah, I have a thought, come back here and ask when you see a piece for sale, chances are one of us old farts have owned it at one point. That said, old Macs are not necessarily a good buy. They have alot of old turkeys, some good stuff too, but in general way over priced for what you'll get. If your cruising for older gear, you need to look at some solid companys with solid products like BAT, Cary, Classe, Parasound, B&K, Belles, Musical Fidelity, Marsh, just to name a few. Their products have stood the test of time and I wouldn't hesitate picking up any of their older products.HT SYSTEM-
