6x8 openings, need help finding components

Hey guys, I haven't used this forum in a few years, but remember it being a great place when I needed advice for what parts to buy for my home theater.

I just bought a 2010 Mazda 6 a few weeks back and have since put in a Kenwood BT945U with a Boston Acoustics G312-4 subwoofer powered by a Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-1 amp. Obviously my next step is replacing the factory component speakers. My problem lies in the fact that both the (component) fronts and (coaxial) rears are 6x8's. I would really like to go with Polk as I did with my home system, but according to Crutchfield the MM6501's won't fit even with brackets. Is this true? I don't want to drop all the way down to the MM5251 and lose bass performance, but I'm not sure what to do.

Is it possible that Crutchfield's recommendation isn't completely true? I had called about Mastersheet instructions for the car when I put in the stereo but they don't have them. So I was thinking maybe they don't have all the information or measurements on the car. ...At least that's what I'm hoping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm quite sure that you will be able to install the MM6501 in your stock 6x8 opening. For the front door you may need to use a 1/2" MDF ring. Don't worry about rears, you don't need them. Make sure you add an amp for the front components and seal the doors.

Thanks for the ideas. I have to admit though, my previous installations were very simple and I'm not familiar with doing modified installs. Forgive me here, but what do the MDF rings provide, and what would be the best way to seal the remaining gap in the stock opening?

Do I put in plastic adapter brackets then put the MDF rings over them?

You would attach the spacer or the ring on the 6x8 frame and then mount the speaker on the ring. Once the speaker is mounted you would then seal the door with stuff like dynamat. This would isolate the front wave from the rear wave and helpp with mid bass reproduction.
