Saw this on the local CL. Asked him about just the center and he said if he did break it up it would be $400.

That leaves 850.00 for the rest. Sweet,.. that's a fair price for the towers and surrounds. And really If I was closer.... I'm glad I'm not. I realy can't afford that much at this time. But then again, I have savings I could cash in on...

The RT 3000's look like RT 55's sitting on top of powered subs. Is that a fair assumption. If I had a 7.2 AVR system with two RT 55's paired with matching subs would that be the same effect as the RT 3000 speakers. Just wondering, I have never heard the RT 3000's.

Buy them, if they are in decent shape. Center goes for around $400-ish, surrounds around $450-ish and $800-ish for the mains. Not a bad deal.

These speakers cost over $5,000 new.

$1,250 for a "one-owner" black set in "excellent condition" sure sparks my interest.

You don't see too many that haven't been abused for sale very often.

No, the satellites on the 3000's are not the same as RT55's. They are a sealed cabinet with different crossovers designed to work seamlessly with the subs. The 55's are a ported design set up as a "bookshelf", and could be stand alone stereo mains. (and I have done just that.

So your setup wouldn't be the same. I'm not saying it wouldn't sound good, just not the same. FWIW, I have both...

Thanks for the info. Right now I have the RT55's stacked on RT800's plus a sub. The center is a CS1000 with the built in sub. It works well for me. Maybe some day I will run across the 3000's. They sound like great speakers.

They are excellent speakers for Home Theater and a good buy at $1,250 if in good condition.

Thanks for posting the link factorz. I purchased the speakers last week and received them today.

The guy selling them said they were one-owner in excellent condition. He wasn't kidding. They are virtually mint (as nice as you could ever hope to find nowadays). Well-worth the $1,250 price tag.

    Nice, gatecrasher!

welcome to the club! This system rocks.

amulford, I'm pretty sure the sats on the rt3000p are ported. I almost never have the grilles off, but IIRC, there is a front port that exits just below the front woofer in the composite housing. But youre right about the xovers being different. There is an 80Hz filter, i believe.

Well I spoke a little soon. After unpacking all of the speakers the plastic base is cracked on one of the RT3000 subs. I instructed the seller to use extra padding because I had this happen to another RT3000 sub a few years ago. The seller agreed to use extra padding but when I opened the boxes there was zero padding. Bummer because these babies are nice.

My plans for this speaker set was to add them to my existing RT5000 system and make a 10.1 or 10.2 setup with the SC-09TX.

It would be the "RT10000" !!

Yes there is a small port in the front below the drivers.

Well I tested the new RT3000s yesterday and noticed something weird. My existing RT3000ps have a green LED power indicator that is always illuminated when the power switch is set to "auto".

    With the RT3000ps I just got, the LED power indicator light automatically goes off when there is no signal after a few seconds (just like the PSW650 does). The RT3000p seems to work great, I was just wondering if these were an earlier or later model than mine or if some RT3000p speakers had the auto feature setup one way and some have it the other. I actually prefer the indicator light turning off when not in use on auto, but mine never did and here's what the manual says;

"NOTE: THE GREEN PILOT LIGHT ON THE
FRONT PANEL OF THE LOUDSPEAKER WILL
ALWAYS BE ILLUMINATED AS LONG AS THE
SPEAKER IS CONNECTED TO AN AC OUTLET.
IT WILL TURN OFF ONLY WHEN THE
    AMPLIFIER IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE
    AC MAINS POWER SOURCE.

How 'bout it RT3000p owners? Which way do your power indicator LEDs operate on "auto" setting?

Do they go out when not in use or are they always on as long as the unit is plugged in?

I'm curious to see if there were two variations of the auto feature produced.

    Hello Gate,
There was a production change during the lifespan of the RT3000p, specifically in the power amp. Early versions had the green LED go off when in standby, later versions had the LED remain on. This was done to comply with the European requirement of having an indicator when
    something was plugged in.
    Enjoy your speaker!
    Ken

Interestingly, My 3000's lights turn off like yours, but my center light stays on. Must've been a set assembled right around the transition.

By the way, there is a member here (vr3) that has a pair of 3000 sub cabinets he was trying to sell. I bet one of them has an intact base that he could sell you. Worth a shot, at any rate.

Looks like he decided to rebuild them.

I bought 2 new amps when I got mine, but I only replaced one. So the original goes off, and the new one stays on. The drawback of the old one is that it actually tunes in a radio station. I just haven't gotten around to swapping it out. For now I am gonna try some LSI7s with the micro3000 subs I got from Ricardo.

I can't even imagine trying to pack one of the RT3000p sub units to ship. I swear my back figured each one weighed about 80# the last time I even moved them.

That's why I always keep the original boxes and packaging for everything I buy new. They come in handy for shipping or even if you are moving. That's a big reason why my original RT5000 set is still in "mint" condition ten years later without a scratch on them.

I almost felt like shipping my original boxes to the guy to use for this next set but didn't.

I think in the future I'll remove the bases before shipping (which only takes a minute to do).

Anyone know where I can get a set of the factory-style screw-in spikes and rubber feet for a RT3000p base?

Call Polk my bet is they might have some of them. They are probably the same ones they used for the LSis

Thanks for the response EndersShadow. I sent Polk an e-mail asking them about the feet and will see what they come back with.
