Heard on the radio a moment ago that Cheeta has passed away. He was 80 years old.

Yes, a chimp is an ape but it's a little known fact that Cheetah was originally a monkey before his conversion into a chimp.
This conversion was sadly the only way that Cheetah felt he could making it onto the Silver Screen (Hollywood having had a heavy bias against monkeys at the time). So, not unlike the castrati would underwent the knife to improve their appearances and maintain their youthful voices), so did the monkey Cheetah. And the rest is cinematic pseudo-chimpanze history.
Was it worth it ? Only Cheetah knows the answer to that.
