Speaker abuse - Skrillex

I like to keep up with new music and experience different types of music. My oldest son has been introducing me to some rather interesting stuff. The latest is Skrillex. Now I am fairly open minded but I have to pass on this one for musical content (a stretch) and lyrics. I will say that they produce some extreme dynamics (not sure how else to describe) that could leave your speaker puffing smoke.

I LOVE SKRILLEX. Also a HUGE fan of Daft Punk (mostly their Alive 2007 CD and the Tron Soundtrack)."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Reminds me of dubstep."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Love skrillex- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I guess I did sound like I was bashing them. It is fun stuff to listen to once in a while in the car, lest my wife think I've lost my mind. My little Volvo V50 wagon actually has a pretty decent factory sound system (Alpine amp and Harman International speakers) that has pretty good slam factor but I had no idea it was capable producing such dynamics. I was afraid to turn it up more than 2/3 for fear of flying shrapnel, though I didn't hear any sign of popping, break-up or clipping (as if one could tell!). The bass felt like it could drive nails and the mids cut steel.
Dubstep, that is another one that my son is into. I'll have to give it a listen.

Get the Daft Punk Tron Soundtrack. You will love it and so will he. I get goosebumps just thinking about it..... The first track has a MASSIVE amount of clean bass sweeps that are just AMAZING."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
If you like skrillex, you'll probably dig rusko. Last year's album, OMG, was one of his best.design is where science and art break even.

Dynamic range is actually a normal part of music...

Thanks op for turning me onto Skrillex. I put it on Pandora at work and will download tonight. Sweet! I added the other bands mentioned too so thanks to everyone! I get a lot in the "what are you listing now" thread with Rick88 and Chumlie, but sometimes the off color bands I like aren't listed. Lately I've picked up on some Noiseshaper which is a deep bass rhythmic band but in the Reggae style.Polk Audio SDA CRS+ crossover 4.1TL by Trey/VR3 (Rings and custom stand by Larry)-Polk Audio SDA SRS2 crossovers by Trey/VR3Parasound HCA1500aYamaha rxa-3070 with musicast-Celestion SL6S presence,- sl9 surround backNHTsuper1's surroundMagnepan SMGParasound 1500pre- Sofia "Baby" tube amp - Monitor Audio Silver RX2 Marantz 2230/B&Kst140Technics 1200mk2 Gamertag: IslandBerserker I am but a infinitesimally small point meeting the line of infinity in the SDA universe

I don't know... When I see the videos on their web site, Santa popping pills in a very dark state and beating up some thugs while apparently stoned out of his mind and a little girl being stalked by some perv then she turns out to be alien possessed and brutalizes the dude... It saddens me that this has entered the realm of music and that it is permeating our children (and us). This is not what the world needs.
I am sorry and I regret starting this thread.

I haven't watched any videos of them, but I had a similar reaction after watching this guy transform himself into a whack mess by shaving himself and cutting himself in a bathtub, it completely creeped me out.
In fact, The Wall still creeps me out.
I just listened a little bit to a quick snippet of the band, but any new music has an appreciation or depreciation curve.Polk Audio SDA CRS+ crossover 4.1TL by Trey/VR3 (Rings and custom stand by Larry)-Polk Audio SDA SRS2 crossovers by Trey/VR3Parasound HCA1500aYamaha rxa-3070 with musicast-Celestion SL6S presence,- sl9 surround backNHTsuper1's surroundMagnepan SMGParasound 1500pre- Sofia "Baby" tube amp - Monitor Audio Silver RX2 Marantz 2230/B&Kst140Technics 1200mk2 Gamertag: IslandBerserker I am but a infinitesimally small point meeting the line of infinity in the SDA universe -

Santa popping pills in a very dark state and beating up some thugs while apparently stoned out of his mind
To be honest I kind of enjoyed seeing Santa kick some punk-arse .... while llistening to a new-to-me group.
It might be a little techno-clubby, but it has enough metal spice to season it just right.skrol wrote:and a little girl being stalked by some perv then she turns out to be alien possessed and brutalizes the dude.
I'm pretty sure she wasn't alien, but rather a witch. She wasn't Wiccan, as she had the ability to summon a demon (the one who looked like he had alien eyes).
Watching him approach the girl, pouring ether onto a cotton closth, with obviously bad intentions, I'd give her "Two Thumbs Up" for sending him straight to hell. Before sending him on his "trip", she obviously was required to give him a PSA-style patdown.
BTW, the girl puts a mark on the wall, a mark to accompany 74 other marks that indicate she's been rather busy riding the streets of stalkers.
It's all good, Skrol.
Music is kind of like art; beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
In 1963, the FBI launched an investigation into the Kingsmen and their song, "Louie, Louie". Pretty big brouha over that song, back in the day.
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wx-8_GI4d2c?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I didn't hear then, nor do I hear now, anything "evil" in that song. Since posting that video, the OP had to make at least 8 corrections to what he was sure were the "true" lyrics; other posters corrected him.
Even NOW, people hear different things in that song. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
RE: the FBI. The limited investigation lasted from February to May 1964 and discovered no evidence of obscenity.
http://vault.fbi.gov/louie-louie-the-song
Here's a link to a PDF file on the FBI's investigation of "Louie, Louie"
http://vault.fbi.gov/louie-louie-the-song/louie-louie-the-song/view
BTW, the 4 month FBI investigation into "Louie, Louie" was most probably wrong in saying there was no indication of obscenity.
There's STILL debate about the 55 second mark: do they say "Aaargh" or *F***" ?
So, Skrol, it's all good, IMO. Keep enjoying the tunes !
(except hip-hop ... that may not be evil, but it sux) :cheesygrin:Sal Palooza -
I can take some of his music in small doses. I like deadmau5 more but different style. I'm still more into house and trance such as Sasha and john digweed. I've been listening to that for ages now and think its better than some newer stuff out there. Just IMO of course.

It's cool to see some of the young 'uns give props to Daft Punk. Homework stayed in heavy rotation in our college dorms nearly fifteen years ago. Glad they're really getting their due the last couple of years.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
