Has anyone noticed that the coke in the new white cans sucks. My Captain Morgans Spiced Rum just isn't the same. It is a sad day.

It's the same Coke, they changed the color of the cans cause they were slick. It was a Major F up and they lost a lot of sales due to color change. They are back to the red can now.

Surely you're not suggesting that the difference the OP tasted was all in his head or placebo.

I am intrigued by this DP and Captains. I might give it a go. I just cant handle this white can coke any more. It seems flatter as well.

Ps. I am not a cocacolaphile but I have sailed many, many miles with the Captain. Something's not right.

Unfortunately, Coke has sucked (severely) since about 1993 to 1994 flavor-wise. Sweetness, it's sucked since about 1988.

Amen, I've been buying the "Mexican Coke" make with Sucrose instead of high Fructose Corn Syrup. There is definately as taste difference. Most soft drink manufacturer's swithced to corn syrup in the '80's due to low cost. Well, that backfired almost immediately. The ethanol debacle in the US has driven the price of corn up much higher. The economics are leaning towards sugar.

If you travel to Europe, taste the regular Coke. You will surprised how much better it tastes than the high fructose corn syrup. A sixteen ounce Coke is a little less than $1.00 a bottle when purchased by the case at Sam's Club.

I haven't tried the white can stuff.

The "New Coke" of 1981 was the crappiest stuff ever made for human consumption. I too am a huge proponent of the Mexican Cokes. Those cokes taste like the real thing we had when I was a kid, and I typically buy them a case or two at a time for about 16 bucks. they come 24 bottles to the case, and nothing tastes better. Funny thing is that when they run a Coke commercial, it's always thye glass bottles from Mexico that are shown, not the crappy plastic bottles they sell here in the states.

Your right on the mexican coke,, i heard they use cane sugar in it ? Its far better,, As far as coke goes in a bottle, 16 ounce, never saw them at any sams club, and they all carry the same thing, that is not in glass form, just the plastic,

Yup, cane sugar in the Mexican Coke. In America, if it's not corn syrup, it's usually beet sugar.

For those looking for something different for Morgan, try it with Root Beer or Cream Soda. Both are excellent alternatives. Although CM/DP remains my goto, CS is a close second when available.

And Decal - I think drinking the Morgan straight up would kill you long before the soda would. That is some seriously bad tasting stuff on it's own... lol It must have some crack in it though, because I still won't stop drinking it.

I think I had the appleton's also, recommended to me by a bartender in Florida. Didn't care for it. Traveling to the in-laws later in the week for new year's, maybe I'll pick up some of the mount **** to try.
