You can see my gear in the signature. Have the AVR serving as a preamp. Went to swap the monster IC's with my Kimber PBJ's that I received today; didn't unplug the AVR. Didn't have the amp on so I figured everything was ok. I took out the old monster cables and hooked up the PBJ's. There was a small "pop" when I connected them. They were connecting to my surround speakers. When I hooked everything back up and tested sound, there was a distortion and crackling in my front right speaker. I immediately unplugged everything and checked the fuses in my amp and all were fine. While I was in there I replaced them all with brand new ones. Thought I might have blown a fuse and not been able to see it properly. Put everything back together and still the same; crackling and distortion from my fromt right RT55. I swapped cables to make sure the IC was not bad and it did the same thing with a cable that I know works. And it happens on all inputs; CD, TV, and DVD. Any other ideas to troubleshoot? Could it have blown the speaker or fried a xover? It wasn't loud at all. I can't figure it out and am getting frustrated. Thanks in advacnce and Happy Holidays to all.

You may have fried/ grounded an output. You could try tracing the wires back from the posts, to whichever board it goes to, and inspect it?
    Good luck

I'm no E.T., but it sounds like you may have grounded a circuit board? If that's the case, you may be able to send it back to Pioneer, if it's less than 2 years old.

Could that have happened with just touching the wires? If so, what exactly would that entail; I assume it would be replacing the circuit board? This is all way over my head.......

But correct me if I am wrong, I could confirm this by hooking the speakers directly to the AVR and not using the amp. If it recurs, it would be a problem with the AVR. If it doesn't recur it would be a problem with the amp. Or aam I totally clueless?????

Switch the right and left inputs on the amp. If the problem follows the switch, the problem is the pre. If the problem does not follow the switch, the problem is either the amp or the speakers. At that point, switch the right and left speaker cable outputs from the amp. If the problem follows the switch, the problem is the amp. If the problem does not follow the switch, the problem is the speakers.

Good luck, man. Frustrating for sure, but you'll be up and running full speed in no time.

ok thanks guys. I switched the right and left from the amp and the distortion stayed with front right speaker. When I switched the right and left speaker cable outputs from the back of the amp, it switched the distortion to the left front speaker. So i am guessing that there is a problem with the amp. Any way to diagnose it without knowing F%$@ all about circuitry? I guess this is one of those times where it is going to cost me!

Also try to unhook all power cables from the wall for a few seconds before plugging them back in, Shawn. It's kinda weird but there were a couple times one of my speakers went silence, I tried to switch speaker cables / IC's but could not fix it, finally I unhook the amp's power cable and plugged it back in after a few seconds and, voila, it worked

+1 on that ^^^.. I had some issues with mine. It just sounded weird and didin't act right. I unplugged it and went to the basement for a beer and a shot of 2 channel. Came back 20 minutes later and it was completely fine.
    Too much **** to list....

It sounds as if there is something going on with that particular amp channel. If you would like, PM me your phone number and I can help you troubleshoot it. Do you have a DMM handy?

Thanks all for the suggestions; I actually removed the amp from the equation for now and am just using the AVR. With it being the holiday season, I will just leave well enough alone and try to hook it up again after the New Year. If it is still acting up, I will try to troubleshoot it with Serendipity. I appreciate all of the help guys. Take care and Happy Holidays!!!!!!
