According to the latest Saab news....
Though Youngman's attempts to save Saab proved futile, it appears that the Chinese automaker isn't giving up on Saab-related assets. Youngman announced that they've acquired the rights to Saab's Phoenix vehicle architecture and also announced that they have intentions of setting up a firm in Sweden to develop a new car based on the Phoenix platform.

The Phoenix vehicle architecture was originally designed by Saab and was going to be used for the next-generation 9-3. It is believed that the platform is not based on any previous General Motors-based designs.

Now the more interesting fight may begin, with Saab entering bankruptcy. Will Youngman try to pull some sort of ploy where they?ll successfully acquire Saab's name, branding and factory?

Below is a rendering of the Saab Phoenix concept

The dealer I work for is an authorized Saab center, and I've seen many interesting things are going on. The latest was a customer who had some body work done this week, well it ended up a crank no start somehow. So we diagnose it and try to get the fuel pump it needs, but Saab no longer distributes parts... period! we end up having to tell the customer this car is SOL, AND HER INSURANCE COMPANY HAS TO TOTAL IT!!

Seriously? Not a single salvage yard had a nearly new fuel pump for a couple hundred bucks?

Or maybe an Autozone? They seem to have fuel pumps for Saabs. Sounds like a lazy dealer.

Ever since the car guys at GM got the boot in the late 1960's through the mid 70's, it seems that everything GM has touched turns to ****. With very few exceptions, the General hasn't built a real car in 35 years. Trucks is another story, but when you build a business model on building nothing but overpriced trucks and lackluster cars, it is only a matter of time before people catch on and never come back.

Saab was never my favorite car, but they deserved far better than what the General gave them. I hope that they are able to resurect the brand using the platform in the OP. Seems a waste of talent and great design for that beauty not to see the light of day. Amazing what can be done without GM involved to eff things up.

Saab may yet to live to see another model year....

According to this bit of Saab news from a couple of days ago, Saab's outstanding loan balance of (about) $325 million from the European Investment Bank has been paid off by the Swedish government....
With Saab assets, including shares in the parts and tooling divisions held as collateral by the Debt Office (which are worth more than the loan itself), sources have reported that the Swedish government is looking to sell the automaker as a whole entity, instead of breaking up and selling off various assets through bankruptcy.

In the meantime, China's Youngman is still showing interest in acquiring Saab with a possible bid of $560 million. In addition, Youngman will invest an additional $520 million to revive production of Saab's 9-3 in April or May.

But the Chinese got competition....Turkish private equity firm, Brightwell Holdings, is readying a bid for Saab as well.

Just as long as the brand is kept far away from any involvement with GM, they should do ok. The GM boys could eff up a wet dream.

Interesting....so another government owned company so it seems. Curious as to where the Swedes got the money. They allways manage to come up with the coin to bail out companies, but you ask for some relief and you get the middle finger. Still, wouldn't be surprised if somehow we payed for this.

There are 6 or 7 serious bidders for Saab....one of them possibly being BMW
The ongoing saga around Saab’s bankruptcy seems to never end, and this time around there may be six to seven serious bidders for the Swedish automaker, one of which is believed to be BMW.

At their weekly press conference, the company touched on its pressing salary situation for its current employees and mentioned that it would take at least another week to sort things out; but the more interesting news is that the highest bidder may not get the deal, according to Saab. The Swedish automaker is looking for a company that will present the best option for the creditors, employees, and the region the most. Which essentially means that Saab will go to the company that has the money, knowledge, experience, and credibility to continue producing Saab vehicles.

It was confirmed that one of the six or seven bidders was a European automaker based out of Munich, which leads many to believe that it is BMW since the two firms once signed an engine purchasing agreement back in 2010. It would be mighty interesting if BMW is able to come out of this one to not only continue producing Saab vehicles, but using their platforms for their own models and even MINI ones.

Still can't get parts though. My brother in-law has an 09 Saab 9-3, air conditioner broke, can't get parts. Now his water pump is shot, can't get parts. Wait....this car is only 4 years old ? Piece of junk.

What a long, strange journey it's been. I remember back in the early 60's seeing old two stroke Saabs smoking along.

Saab stop being Saab, really, when GM acquired it. The classic 900 was an awesome, quirky car. Everything that followed was just rebadged GM crapola with a few superficial Saab quirks (the center mounted ignition switch, mainly) tossed in.

    Too bad.
