could you hook it up straight to the battery?(even though it would always be on even if the radio was off)
it doesnt matter if its ghetto rigged or not...

connect it to switched power behind the radio if you don't have a remote output wire from the radio. remote uotputs on aftermarket radios are ussually blue with a white stripe or just blue(this is also aften a power attenna lead make sure it gives power when your listening to cd's as well as the radio)

Take a multi-meter or a circuit tester and find a fuse in the fuse box that switches on in both the ignition and accessory modes. Then run a wire to that fuse slot. It can be a pain to squeeze it in with the fuse but it'll work. Infact, in the days before Car Audio for Dummies style wiring harness adapters, that is how we used to have to wire things. You know what kind of hell it was having to trace down wires with schematics in the back of a Chilton's manual? Granted, harness adaptors have been around for a while but they didn't always fit your application and they were hard to find. Not everyone had them and the universal ones were anything but.
