Maybe those "old" ears are a changin'. I know mine have over the years. Somehow I think in 2-3 years though your attention may turn to something more esoteric.HT SYSTEM-

I was thinking the same thing.... huh???
Steve - what has you lusting over the Harbeths that your Carbon 7's don't?
H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music. -
If you were talking about the little two way I would say stick to your Carbon's but those Harbeth Super HL-5 are just astounding speakers.
I have lusted over them for many a year. -
Been eye-balling Harbeths for YEARS, but I had to first re-aquaint myself with monitors in general. Did the "tower" thing for many years following some AR58's in the early 80's. The Carbon 7's are wonderful, no doubt, but in a couple years I'm going to kick it up a notch or two. I was also considering the Harbeth Compact 7ES3, but given my large listening area, and propensity to rock out on occassion, I feel the SHL5 would be a better fit (though substantially more expensive).Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Nice speakers no doubt, I think their sound will be right up your alley too. Hope you snag a pair sooner rather than later.HT SYSTEM-

Those are great speakers! I've always found the Spendor monitors to be just a tad more lively than the Harbeth's.DKG999

That brings up something I had been mulling over.. Have you had any complaints about filling your living room with those Carbon 7's? I am an occassional rock-out'er and my room is smaller than yours i believe, but decent sized.

I, too, have been wanting to get back into smaller monitors again. For what reason I really can't tell but I can say that I totally agree with the above statements. As I get older things change (or hearing as well) and while I still run towers I'd like to eventually "downsize" to monitors as well. Sure hope those LsiM's running around up here get over this way at some point. Listening to those should be a good measure of what today's monitors can do. Re-aquainting is a very good word for it Steve.Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

Jason,
My room is 18ft wide, 36ft deep, with vaulted ceilings that go from 8-12ft. The carbon 7's will rock. I played some "Enter Sandman" goodness for Bizill awhile back at concert levels...I believe he was pretty impressed. I don't know how a speaker this small has the bass it does, or how it manages to play at the levels it does without compression---but it does. I'm mostly a rock/jazz fan, though I listen to just about everything sans gospel and rap. I was a "tower" guy for 25yrs, the Carbon 7's didn't disappoint.
Take a look at my showcase, and you'll see the listening area pics.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
