Ok so I've been trying to find a good Stereo/Receiver to power a pair of monitor60s and a psw505. It will mostly be used for music, but also for movies. I can only afford one that falls in between to 200-300 price range atm. In the future I plan to upgrade with an amp or whatever and add more speakers. This is my first time getting involved with the whole HT thing so a lot of this is new to me. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Welcome to CP.

Might be a tough call to find a good new or used surround sound receiver w/ the current gen of bells/whistles and pre-outs. Maybe you should start with a stereo receiver w/ sub outs like a HK 3490 (~$275). Then you can save up for a good surround receiver and amp later on when you're ready to go all in on the HT setup.

Otherwise, I'd say check audiogon and videogon and see what you can find in terms of surround receivers.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

    Polk LSi9 (xo mods), Polk DSW MicroPro 2000 sub | NAD c375BEE | W4S DAC1 | SB Touch | Marantz SA-8001 | MIT AVt 2 | Kimber Hero / AQ / Signal ICs | Shunyata / Signal PCs

First suggestion is save more money. $200-300 isn't going to get much of a reciever. And if you do find something in that range you will be wanting to upgrade it Sorry i can't be more helpful.

Great thing about the HK 3490 is that it has pre outs as well as sub out. I have one and it's a lot of bang for the buck IMHO. Sounds great with music and movies but isn't a surround receiver (avr)

For just stereo, 2 speakers and a sub, you can pick up a real nice vintage receiver from Marantz or Sansui that would sound pretty good with the M60's. If you plan on going surround sound down the road, look for a used Pioneer elite that can be had in the 300-600 range. Nice thing about the vintage Marantz or Sansui is when it's time to move up to HT, and you sell those vintage receivers, you won't lose a nickel.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
