Are those 4 round things the output stages? I tell 'ya... I can have this amp cranked for hours and that heatsink will barely warm up.

Oh, and check out those caps! Can we say big????

They are output transistors... which are in the output stage of the amp...

I guess I need to go to stereo electronics class... can you learn me on these things?

are they what boosts the signal and drives the speakers? I'm assuming so, since the heatsink implies that they need to be seriously cooled. I guess I'm just wondering why mine never seem to heat up much. I think the thing that makes the most heat in this amp is the array of incandescent bulbs that are lighting the front panel. Am I just not pushing this thing hard, or is it actually designed to run this cool? It sounds like this amp has power to spare, so I guess it was just built to a higher standard...

Exactly, the heat sinks are simply supplying more than enough heat transfer area for the heat being generated. And the heat generated is dependant on the load presented.

From what I can see in your pix and read in your posts, no, you are not asking that much of your amp.... small room, three sets of speakers (two in series in parallel with the third).

Old Marantz was a standard bearer in the industry, until they came under Sony Superscope (I believe), which took them downhill. They're out from under Sony now and well back on the road to respectability.

yes ad thoes are older style of a amp secton. now a days they use mosfets and befor mosfet there was the fet and befor that was the transistor. the things about fet feild efect transistors they are easy to blow if yo get the right sigonal on the input of it. now a mosfet is more stabble it uses a metal oxside semi conductor to prevent it from dieing if the wrong sigonal is aplyed. and you have 4 types of amps a,b,c and d most amps you buy for ht is a a/b combo

school lesson over thanks for atending.

Thanks for the lesson(s), guys. So far, this amp has taken everything that I can throw at it... all I have to do now is fix the one channel that's cutting out. It appears to be a problem with the tape monitor switch. If I touch it, it starts cutting out and such. I don't know whether it's loose solder, or bad contacts, or what. It's a two position push switch...

Oh, and right now it's not even driving 3 pair total.... the polks are downstairs on the TV rig. I want to bring them up and hook them up to get a real understanding on the power this thing has...

    Thanks again,
