NAD 3240PE Integrated Amp

Hi, I'm having a technical problem with my NAD 3240PE amp, and was hoping that someone here could tell me what it is, or point me in the right direction.
The NAD has worked fine in the past, but was not used for about a year (I was abroad). I just hooked up my KEF (Cresta 30) speakers to the amp and I only get sound out of their tweeters. The main drivers don't seem to emit any sound at all. I am however able to get proper sound from the headphone jack, I don't know if this is on a separate circuit or not.
I've tried connecting the source (iPod) to different inputs that the amp has; CD, Tunes and Video Tape 2 (Phono uses a different circuit I believe) but to no avail. The amplifier has a 'soft clipping' switch at the back, which doesn't change anything. Neither do any of the buttons at the front. I've also tried connecting reversing the + and - of the cable inputs without any success.
An important note; my dad tried to use the amp once with speakers that were not suitable, and apparently he blew those speakers! I don't know if this can actually damage the circuitry of the amp? The thing is, after this had happened, I tried using my old setup of the NAD + KEF speakers, and I'm pretty sure that I had the same problem back then, which then however had magically disappeared when I later tried the amp again. Makes it even more confusing!
Does anyone know if the sound I now get is typical of a certain problem with (NAD) amps?
I'd like to keep using the amp, but don't think it will make much sense getting it fixed as I bought the amp secondhand a fear years ago for about ? 100,-.
