Yup it's true. Don't know if this has been posted before, but Blue Coast records has a few titles available for download. Compatibility with SACD players sound like it's hit or miss, but Sony has a player that is currently compatible as well as the PS3 weather or not it is the model that can play SACDs. Sony also has a player that will becoming soon that can play the the files.
Korg's newly free AudioGate and Foobar (requires installation of the DSDIFF Decoder plugin or component)

Foobar and the DSDIFF decoder plugin make for a free combo to fool around with. Not necessarily without bumps, but interesting.

Here's a thread regarding the plugin.

That is pretty cool, but I am pissed at Sony. After three years, they discontinued the XA-5400ES SACD player, which has been described as the best SACD player Sony has made, and are bringing out the SCD-XE800 as an entry level player. They need both of those players to be on sale. The MBAs are ruining that company.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

That is depressing and will probably also drive up the price of used 5400s!
