DSW micro pro 2000

Last winter I purchased a DSW MicroPro 2000 8" sub. My problem is it doesnt seem to put out an acceptable volume level. I have played music and movies at a moderate volume for considerable periods to break- in the driver.
At nearly a year of listening I find the output very lacking. My Polk PSW10 is considerably louder in music, movies and all audio in between.
The sub rattles like it's bottoming out at even moderate volume levels. It currently sits in a corner on a 12x12 piece of carpet (hardwood with rugs in the room). This made a small difference in sound quality.
I have run the DSW setup routines countless times and have set it for every mode available. My receiver is a Pioneer vsx-820, which should be more than adequate for this sub. My Front and rears are Polk Monitor 50 and 60's with a CS2center channel.
During movies it seems to hit subsonics just fine, and 80hz mids no problem. I measured it at the wall with a kill a watt meter and the result was less than 40 watts of current draw at full output. Even for class D that seems terribly low to me.

Any suggestions or do I just have a bum unit?
Thanks for your time,

Nick

It may be a bit small based on what your using it for and your room size. It is my understanding that this sub is more geared for music listening when using a pair of them...I'm sure others will chime in. Also, try remove it from the carpet / place on a solid surface to see if this helps...

I had a similar problem with this subwoofer. I bought one that only had about 10 hours on it and its amp was blown, so it had to be shipped back and get a new amp which cost way to muc. After getting it back it definitely was louder but I still dont think it was all that great either. So i bought an SVS with the money i sold it for and will never go back.

I would try sending low-frequency test tones to the subwoofer. (I am not sure if your AVR has this as an option, but if not you can usually download some online.) Output a test tone below the frequency of the cutoff on your AVR and manually up the volume on the micropro using the micropro remote. You can tell now if it is making a pure low frequency sound or if something is wrong with the driver.

Do you currently have your speakers set to small and subwoofer set to yes? You can try setting the subwoofer to plus but I would keep the speakers as small.

Because the micropro's are not boomy, they often sound lower in volume than the lower quality Polk subs.

It does have built-in test tones. How do they sound? I was always impressed by them, considering the sub's small footprint. Of course, they couldn't contend with the 15" beast in the corner, but the test mode was impressive nonetheless. However, they won't fill a large room. How big is your listening area?

I have a DSW1000 in one of my systems - same sub with a plain cabinet - it is in an old house with rattly floors. The 1000 rattled quite a bit until I bought a SubDude for it; that made it instantly tighter and more musical. Then again, it is a very small sub and it is never going to shake the house down.

I finally got my Micro Pro 2000 replacement about a week back (first one had a blown amp and a bad replacement amp). In fact the first sub never worked properly in the first place, so the last week has been my first non-issue experience with it.

I'm using it w/ LSi9s in my bedroom (11 x 11) and have been very happy with it so far. It's crossed over at ~60 Hz and complements the LSi9s nicely. It's definitely much more musical than the PSW505 in the HT, and doesn't feel overpowering - which is my issue with subs and music in the first place. But it hits hard and is very quiet - no rattling / squeaking (like the first unit).

But I'd think you'd want 2 of 'em or just a bigger sub for an HT setup in a larger room.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

I had the 2000 as well. My room is about 20' by 15'. I had it in the corner and the test tones were awesome. The fit and finish is incredible IMHO. However, it left a lot to be desired in my room and I decided to get rid of it. I was thinking about running dual 200's but decided against that and just got a bigger sub that does the job well.
