New to HT

My old stereo has been acting up so I replaced it with an Integra DTR 30.3. I have a pair of vintage "New Advents" and a pair of RT25is. Looking for a center channel now and adding a sub down the road. I'm concerned with music quality as much as HT.

I was thinking a used 245i or a CSI3 or CSI a4 in the center, rt25is up front and the advents for surround. Am I on the right track?

Thanks for the help

    Welcome to Club Polk, Easy!

Polk recommends the CSiA4 to match the RT25is, but I would think the CSi3 would be fine, too.

I'd say, yes, you are on the right track. The important part is to match your front 3 as best you can. Good luck!

What is the difference between the CSi3 and the CSiA4? Does it matter that the surrounds (Advents) are so different? After getting the CC would you agree the sub is the next move?

    Welcome to Club Polk!

So let me get this straight; you're going to take New Advents which are almost full range speakers that are fairly "musical" for two channel and replace them with smallish Rt25i bookshelves as your fronts and move the big guys to surround duty?

Probably not where I would go. Although it would be hard to find a matching center for an old Advent? So I can understand the decision. I have a set of original Large Advents in my basement I use with a vintage Pioneer SX-3900 (125 W x 2) fluroscan receiver. I'm using them at the moment...nice low end.

What I'd suggest is eventually just getting all Polks and using the Advents in a two channel system?

But for now. Those rear surrounds regardless of what they are will not matter much. As you can find out from doing a search, the absolute must is to match your front three speakers, the rest are not as important on this.

Have fun (but do something more interesting with the Advents, when you can).

Like the title of the thread says, I’m trying to piece it together. Life is compromises and cash flow and a happy wife tend to impact the decision process. The Advents were attached to an NAD304 that started acting funny, therefore the purchase of the DTR 30.3.

I wanted to put the advents on the 2nd source and put them in the living room but that was overruled. Do you see an issue when the receiver is set to all channel stereo? Right now set at 4.0 I think it sounds pretty good with both sets of speakers. Will it be much different after adding the center? Eventually I do envision all Polks for the 5.1 and then using the NAD or another amp on the 2nd source and putting 2 sets of speakers on that, one pair in the living room and the Advents down the basement.

Right now I’m trying to decide on the CC. Crutchfield is still selling the Csi3. Is the CsiA4 worth the extra cash verses the Csi3?

    Thanks for the replies.

CSi3 is the older version of the CSiA4. Save yourself some $$!
