Sony HP-510 turntable

I recently acquired a Sony HP-510. All seems to be in working order. The problem: the tone arm does not rest on the record. Thus, obviously, there is no sound. I have fiddled with some of the knobs and screws, but with no effect. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
