For those that workout with a HRM

Ok, I've been told that when you go biking or something and you wear the Polar Heart Rate Monitor's (or something similar) you're ultimately supposed to keep them on for an hour after the workout/ride since your body is still burning for that period of time after. Not that I mind keeping it on for that time, but is it over the top that I have my Laptop on an upside down trash can on my coffee table so that I can stand and keep the heart rate registering so that I don't have to sit down?

btw....Ever since I've had this thing, any time I'm sitting down (in the car on the way home from the biking trail {that's 30 miles away from home}) the thing hasn't ever worked. It is keeping the exact same contact as if I'm standing if I'm sitting down, right below the sternum and is fairly tight so that it doesn't come loose (women must hate bras) Same for my friend that's had his for years.....doesn't that seem weird?

 Now help me understand why you would want to wear a heart monitor after your workout? The purpose of a heart monitor is to be able to adjust your workout to increase or decrease your heartrate to the desired target workout. Most folks like to run 70-80% of the max heartrate. Once you finish your workout, your done. There's no need to monitor your heartrate because you're not working out.

I suppose if you really want to you would do it to chart your recovery from strenuous exercise. You'd need to do it for a while just to establish a baseline though and other variables could affect it.

It could be useful but it may be one of those diminishing returns scenarios.

Sounds like you have a program that collects the hr info on your laptop. Does you hr monitor store your readings and download them?

    Training for a big event?

    regards

I've had this HRM for about 2 years now. I got it actually because I think that it's VERY helpful to see how well I'm doing, and with biking, it's pretty handy. I'm not training for anything specific.....just wanted to get a good idea how good I'm working out. Some of the HRM's do have downloading to laptops, but mine doesn't, and I'm not THAT concerned about it......
