Good Monor 40 Subwoofer Match?

Hi,

I need advice on speaker choice. I purchased a new plasma 6 months ago to replace my old one. I failed to recognize the lack of analog L/R outputs. The family consensus is that the built in rearward speakers that produce sound in the wrong direction are unbearable and need to be replaced. I bought a set of Polk monitor 40's on impulse intending to open the tv and route the internal speaker connections out. I decided not to do so due to warranty and lack of information regarding the internal amp. I am finally brought into the modern age. So I want to use the 40's as fronts, I have two wireless Advent rears in place from the previous owner of the house. Further impulse I purchased a Polk rm-7 center since it fits nicely in my tv cabinet. The only speaker remaining is a sub.

I was thinking a psw10 or psw505? They are $90 and $180 respectively at Newegg at the moment.
Would the psw10 be sufficient? I usually do not fiddle much and listen to music mixed the same as the original producer intended. My son and I do play video games also.

In line with my bottom feeding I purchased a Sherwood 772 receiver at lunch today since it does two zones: 5.1 and stereo. This what I will use to drive the system.

Thanks,
Dean

The PSW10 would probably be good enough for the specific purpose of enhancing the 40's. Although, I think in the long run you would be much better served buying the 505. Granted, it's twice as much - but you are somewhat future proofing yourself which is a smart buy in my book. There really isn't a much better bang for your buck than the 505.

You may not want to upgrade now, but think of down the road. What if you come across that deal that you just can't turn down? Much more than the 40's and you might as well use the PSW10 as a doorstop IMHO. Food for thought I guess.

the psw10 is just terrible in my opinion, step up a notch in quality if you want a smaller sub, or like the others said, get the bigger 12 inch psw505.

Thanks for the input. A 505 was delivered today. Tomorrow is set up day. I have high hopes. 11 years ago I noticed LR outs and I had two speakers sitting around. That was an eye opener after a life of mono built ins.
