Perhaps someone or doro will have this answer but I'm just curious...

Why does polk limit sales of their ebay store to the US only? Will polk ever expand that market? Since I can't cross the border (No Passport), what other options are available?

My bet would be so they dont have to deal with import/duty taxes on purchased items (since they would probably add that to the cost of the item at time of purchase), differences in shipping costs to Canada v. US, etc.

It's really not something I'm going to contact polk CS about and take away from people who actually require there service. I was just curious.

I also find it weird that all the products are in California but yet polk is in Maryland... I assume polk's warehouse is in California for this regard.

Sherardp - Tell me more about this place you used or PM me some details.

Products are mostly made in China at this point so why wouldn't California be a logical place to ship to and get "parts" for refurbs, etc.? Pacific ports have some of the heaviest traffic in the U.S.

Aren't polk speakers designed and manufactured in the US?

Designed in the U.S., yes. But manufacturing is not done on this side of the Pacific. That's been the case for a while. There aren't many U.S. speaker manufacturers that still make product here; just a result of globalization.

That would surely jeopardize their relationship with Canadian resellers/dealers as a whole. Canada has their own ruling which establishes territorial makets.
My bet would be so they dont have to deal with import/duty taxes on purchased items (since they would probably add that to the cost of the item at time of purchase), differences in shipping costs to Canada v. US, etc.
This is also correct and goes much further than we think of as the pricing paid in Canada also bares hidden costs for Canadian benifits that have to be paid from somewhere down the market road (not that I always agree with all of it).

"The made in China" is also very relevant for Canadians as it renders the free trade agreements between the 2 countries sort of useless in such cases as the free trade agreement covers for goods made in the US and therefore is not applicable for Chinese goods (I am not sure what % but a minimum % of manufacturing has to be actually US made to validate the free trade agtreement).

A way around this might be for Polk to hire locals (Canadians) to operate a Polk EBay store for them (".ca"). ;)

    NOPE! ...AND...

    Exactly!

Just a note; my above comments bear some truth however not necessary fully accurate as I do not have hard facts but a minimal understanding of what is going and the way this world wide market affects our 2 countries (so my humble opinion on this matter is easily debatable)...

Chapter 3 starts at page 14

If you are good with legal jargon, you can check chapter 4 regarding Border Measures (starts at p. 37)
    3. Goods exported to the territory of the other Party from a foreign trade zone
or similar area shall be subject to the applicable customs duties of the Party
maintaining the foreign trade zone or similar area as though the goods were
    withdrawn for domestic consumption.
Just a quick glance at the 224 pages document lead mee to believe 50% minimum must be manufactured in the selling country in order to be considered under the free trade agreement (but read on as I only had a quick glance at the document).

No can opened here, just pointing out that manufacturers are bound by legal countries laws and also have to be carefull not to step on their direct clients (dealers) territoties if they do not want to loose their loyalty to the brand. It is hard to make everyone happy, you and I sure would want to have a direct relation with Polk but this wouldn't make their Canadian dealers too happy and the law could also slap Polk if not going by the rules. I'm just sayin its easy to blame Polk (which at times I have to admit I would have the tendency if I did not take the time to try undestand what they need to face to do business) when in reality Polk is hostages of the rulings.
