LSi15 vs. LSiM 705

I had to sale my LSi15's when I went through my divorce and miss them greatly. My goal had been to get a new pair of LSi15's when I got back on my feet, but I have anxiously been waiting for the new line. I assumed it was to be superior to the LSi line. But they are priced less expensive than the LSi line.
My main purpose is music. From classical to rap. So in the end, what is the better speaker?
Among the differences I have noted between the two is that the LSiM are 8 ohm speakers where as the LSi's are 4, and obviously amps like my outlaw 7500 would probably like that.
currently, I own LSi9's, and LSiC, so obviously voice matching is important, but I am a stereo guy. the LSiM's look beautiful, but honestly, to me the LSi series is among the most beautiful speakers I have ever seen.

I would say the replacement for the LSi 15's would be the LSiM 707's, not the 705's. As for the price of the 705's, that's $1,499.95 EACH, so definitely more money than the LSi 15's.Political Correctness'.........defined

I'd say the replacement for the 15 is the 705. The 707 perhaps the replacement for the lsi25. I wouldn't get the 707 unless you have a really big space. They need serious room to breath from what I experienced from them at polkfest.
I never heard the 705's though.
Don't rule out the 703's. Unless you were in a really large room, if you had a blindfold on you'd have no idea you were listening to bookshelves. 703's are more budget friendly too obviously
Listen to the whole line and see which fills your needs. There a new line with significant improvements so they are of course priced accordinglyLiving Room 2 Channel -

And Polks ebay site has the 15's at a the very nice price of 900 for the pair with shipping included (I think). They are factory refurbs but man, thats a steal. And they do have a warranty.

if you have the money for these guys and the amperage for them, they are truly a steal. I called polk and they are not discontinuing these is the very near future. i plan on getting a pair (reaquiring) in Spring.
how do they sound? on music? incredible. tight and clear. very little color. and you can drive them hard. -
Call me crazy, but since you already have the LSI 9's, what are you hopeing to gain with the 15's ? More bottom end ? Why not just buy a subwoofer, it will be cheaper, give you way more bottom end. The sound signature of the 15's and 9's are pretty darn close with the 15's obviously putting out more in the lower regions, hence my suggestion.HT SYSTEM-

Oh I can drive them NO problem... what I should have done was my research ahead of time. I thought the RTi A's were badass and a perfect speaker for music. I have LSi15s, and they are definitely better than LSi9s + sub. This is from my personal experience - I auditioned bookshelves at home, before deciding on going with the Polk LSi for my main setup. LSi15, with the right amplification, gives you the top to bottom coherence a sub/bookshelf system will not easily achieve. And LSi15 not giving up anything in imaging to the LSi9, because the midrange portion of LSi15 is essentially LSi9. I believe that LSi15 is the best modern Polk speaker yet. In my setup, I'm not even using a dedicated sub. The only thing you need to be careful with LSi15s is not to put them close to the sidewall. Naturally, 8in bass woofer needs to "breath". But really, any speaker requires a careful setup based on its design. -

Besides bottom end extension, LSi15's sound better than LSi9's. The crossover for the 15 isn't the same as the 9 + an added section for the woofer. If you don't have a sub, how do you claim one is better than the other ? There is simply no way the bottom end of the 15's can match up to a good dedicated subwoofer.
I did have sub in my system, including when I auditioned LSi9. I've since got rid of the sub, because with high quality amps, my LSi15 deliver a quality of bass, that can only be improved by using a much more musical (and expensive) subwoofer. My rear speakers are also LSi15, so maybe that's why I don't miss subs even for movies. That's why I mentioned REL. But I have other things I'd like to improve in my system before worrying about bass.
By the way, I also want to try the famous mode here of swapping bass woofer of LSi15 with a better Polk driver. -

Thanks to this thread, yesterday I bought a pair of 15's off of Ebay for 6 bills and change shipping included. A merry Christmas to me deal. I would have loved a pair of the new LSiM's but a little too much coin right now. If I end up keeping these I'll be putting my RTi theater setup for sale (which is sweet BTW) so stay tuned. Congrats. I can suggest that you change out the woofer from the stock one to a Polk db840 SVC car sub. There is a thread on doing it and its literally a drop in replacement. Helps tighten up the bass and is about the easiest mod of them all to do.
Wait till Crutchfield has a buy one get one 1/2 off sale on the sub to save yourself even more cash.

The LSi 15's showed up yesterday. Very nice and very pleased. There are a few things I'll need to address (i.e. new grilles and a new base) but for the money I spent, a very very good deal. I'll also need to look into the sub driver upgrade. Cheers. :biggrin:
