I hate to ask questions like what speaker is better buy I live wayyyyy out in the boonies
and don't have a stereo store nearby. I plan on using the speakers just for music and
FM radio they will be hooked up to a yamaha receiver.
The specs are
monitor 40 Frequency Response: 47Hz-25kHz, 8 ohm, 89 db
RTi4 frequency response 60-26,000 Hz , 8 ohn, 89 db

On specs it looks like the Monitor 40's are better.
If you have any experience with them I would greatly appreciate your input.

Just for the reasons you give for usage, get the Monitor 40s. I think for the price you can't beat them. They can be a little touchy for room placemen but, a lot of speakers are.
Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

The rti4s are the more refined speaker. Better build quality, components, etc, real wood veneer, more detail and tighter bass (even though its a little light). However, the rti4s are the brighter speaker, and depending on the model number of the yamaha that might not be a good combo. The 40s are the more forgiving speaker with the classic warm polk sound. I think you'll be happy with either but those are some of the tradeoffs.
