Massaging chairs - looking to buy

So I've always made sure to "look" at the massaging chairs anytime I get dragged to the furniture store. Well, I'm finally in a position that I really do want to look at them.

Unfortunately one main store in my area (Becker Furniture) does not carry them any longer. I don't believe Slumberland ever did, and HOM only has a couple.

HOM used to have a half dozen models, but they are actually down to 1 (the iJoy 2310). They do have some other nicer models of the Human Touch brand, but @ $1600 for a used, clearanced floor model (that they still keep plugged in by the way) - I'll pass. Tested it, and it works great but it is clearly worn, and the buttons on the remote are getting worn off already. (They quit carrying the chairs I guess, and all that's left is in the clearance section)

I REALLY like the massage the iJoy gives. I also like the 2310 over the larger 2580 due to the remote placement. The 2310 has the remote on a cord thing. The 2580 is larger, which I would like - but I'm not really digging the remote in the armrest. Other than chair size, I believe they are identical (2580 has a cupholder, and a 3" longer track for the back massage unit - not enough to justify a $300 premium)

The thing that keeps me from buying it immediately is somewhat price. I can get the 2310 in store for $500. I can order it online for $400. That's not the issue. What kills me is that the ottoman is also $500. If I'm going to spend a grand on a chair, I kind of want it to be 1 piece. But I haven't found anything else that I can compare the iJoy's to. I'm debating on just getting the 2310 online, and keeping an eye out to see if I can find a good deal on the ottoman sometime down the road. The other chairs that I have looked at online are running $2k+, so those are out of the question for me.

Anyone have the iJoy or any other massaging chair that can comment? I really do like the iJoy, but all I can compare it to personally is the old school vibrating chairs, not a true "human touch" style chair.

I found my Panasonic massage chair with built-in leg massager and stretcher (1200.00 msrp) chair on craigs list for 370 or 470. I forgot. It is in mint cond with manual. I've since worn a motor bearing out. It still works but when one motor is used, it makes a weird sound instead of being wisper quit. But it still was one heck of a deal!!!

I would look locally around you first.

Was flipping channels one night and saw Tony Little hawking some massage recliners on a shopping network. I'd be afraid to buy anything that guy panders out there, just saying....

In Japan they have these and they are awesome. Not sure what your budget is, but this thing does everything, including laying back almost like a bed. Out here these go for 4-6K easy.

I'd love to get a Panasonic, but yeah.... not prepared for the cost quite yet. I checked CL, and I either can't identify the chair (i.e. looks like a normal recliner, can't tell if it vibrates or does actual massage), or the thing looks like it's been used in a shopping mall for the last 5 years of its life.

I'm hoping to stay around the $1k mark. Not afraid of used, but anyone that's ever been to a furniture store knows - these things get put through their paces if they are out on the floor (so anything clearanced is practically worn out already as I've found)

Talking to the wife, unless I find a great deal sometime that I happen to stumble across - we may just hold off for 2 years. Then we can get rid of my car payment and fork out a few grand to have a nice chair that nobody else has defiled already. Never know what kind of **** juices have been on some of these things.

Again, one of these might pop up near you.

A man's wife sat in mine very little after her leg surgery. They thought it would help but she didn't like it so it was really brand new for me. It was 1800.00 and he sold it to me for 370 or 470.

Here it is, Panasonic older version but still. Black leather I believe. I've spent hundreds of hours getting relief for my shoulders and back and even calves and hips. The neck, not so much. I sinks back in near the ear level. But I fell asleep in it again today for 2 hrs..

I think HOM had the model just above that one perhaps? Looked almost identical, but the handle was wood as well. Was a comfy chair - but you could definately tell it was "very experienced". Leather was all worn and out of shape, and half the paint on the remote was worn off.

I think that could definately be in my short list come time to buy. A little over budget currently. Might be a tax return purchase rather than waiting to get my car paid off.

On a side note - got sideswiped on my way home from work. I could always use that money. Everyone loves a ghetto Infiniti with a bashed in door and fender right? The bright side is I wouldn't have to park so damn far away at the mall then

I have that Sharper Image monster chair, the 4 grand chair with the teathered leg massager. This chair also goes all the way flat. Needless to say a lightning strike at the house last year took out the reclining feature and the leg massager. The back part works fine for massages though. Funny how lightning works, you'd think it would have taken the whole thing. I've taken it apart and can't find anything burnt up, nothing, even the fuse is still good. Finding someone to fix it is like finding a Lawyer for Lindsey Lohan. Enjoyed the heck out of that chair when it was all working. If I can't fix it soon I may just sell it to someone good with electronics.

I would buy a used chair close by, these things lose value fairly quickly. I don't think I would fork out that kinda coin again for a chair. I could have bought a nice leather power reclining sectional for what I paid for that thing.

If you do get one, the calf massager is a must. Lean back, put your feet in it......almost as good as sex.....almost.

  • Hi there,

I would like to buy a massage chair for my husband, but I can't decide which one to choose. Will you guys help me decide, please? I was looking around a bit, I found a site with the top 10 massage chairs, but I would like to hear your personal opinions.

    Thank you! :)

I do not know the name of the chair. It was at some home and garden show the wife and me went to. Chairs were on sale for about 7k each. We sat in them for at least a half hour. They were the bomb. Especially the foot massage part. Chair left a really sweet memory in my head.
We figured that if we bought on it would get used for about three months and then the thrill would be gone and we would feel stupid for such a purchase. Good luck. D
