Straight from the manual:
Q Control:
This adjusts the bass tightness. The lower the Q, the
tighter the bass. Setting to a lower Q also increases
headroom, especially in the low bass.
My bad, I thought I had read that it decreased headroom.... Sorry for the Misinformation. I may give it a try at .3 thenLiving Room

I'll still play around with the Q-control a bit as I move forward. I have been thinking to myself about this control knob. It isn't a switch, it's more of an analog control. So couldn't I move the dial so that it's between .3 and .5 for a blend in between the two? A sort of .4 if you will?
Maybe it's time that I contact HSU for some insight.AVR: Onkyo TX-NR808

Before i bought my HSU i had a 505.The HSU is a Great Sub. When my HSU was received i had a question on set up. I sent an email ,Within 6 hours i received a detailed answer from Pete HSU, The owner. I was impressed with Pete's responce and the
product. I guess whatever sounds best to you is all that matters.Marantz SR 7007

HSU does have great CS but to clarify Pete isn't the owner. Dr Puh S. Hsu is.... -

It's been a week since I got the VTF-2 MK4, and I have nothing but praise for it. My room conditions are not the greatest, so sub placement isn't the best. I really only have one place to set it for now, which is a few inches from the wall, and a couple feet to the left of my front-left floorstanding speaker. I can't wait to move into a new house and have a dedicated theater room where I can really take advantage of this sub.
After running the Audyssey calibration, it had me set the HSU sub volume to somewhere in between the 7 and 8 o'clock position. It's a considerable bit less than the suggested 9 o'clock starting position according to HSU. Because of this, I noticed a drop in SPL and how much I felt the bass. Yet I will continue to use it at this position until I get my own place, so as not to disturb the others that live with me. This sub can easily shake the foundation at higher sub volume's. It's effortless in producing low tones all the way down to 20hz, and does go lower. There is no denying that.
I've now had a chance to compare the HSU VFT-2 MK4 to how I had my Polk PSW505 set up for after having calibrated the HSU to Audyssey's 75db rating. When the Polk was set to that setting, most of my sound was coming from my speakers, and not much was heard from the sub. The only time I really noticed the Polk was when my receiver volume was turned up fairly high and there were explosions to be heard. With the HSU at the same 75db rating, I actually notice the LFE sounds at any time they are played. I watched LOTR: The Two Towers a couple nights ago, and even at this low sub volume it was very impressive. I finished Mass Effect 3 throughout the last week, and WOW what a great game to play with this HSU. Every time a giant Reaper machine would show up I could feel their presence as they lumbered around and shot their laser weapons. It made me feel like I was in the war with the characters. It was awesome, and something I didn't find nearly as cool with my previous sub. I feel bad for my friends who are stuck using TV speakers, because they are really missing out!
I don't want to be the guy who over exaggerates the performance increase that this HSU sub provides, but in this circumstance, the difference is night and day. I'm not sure if it's because of the extra short-term power being able to hit 1000 watts, the larger cabinet of the sub box, the ports and Q-control, weight of the magnet/driver, or a combination of it all. I read others opinions as I approached the possibility of buying this sub, and I got the impression that it would be worth it. It has certainly delivered so far!AVR: Onkyo TX-NR808
