Speaker Stands

Couldn't really find a pertinent forum to post this but:

I am looking to purchase some nice speaker stands, both functionally and aesthetically. I would prefer them to be dark wood.I have Polk LSi9 fronts, so as you can imagine it requires some strong and sturdy stands. I would like the stands to be around 30" or so. And I would also say my budget for the pair is around $300-400. Oh yea, a large top plate is a must (at least 8"x8").

Any ideas on who makes a nice pair? Links are appreciated.

Not wood however the Sanus Ultimate Foundations stands are built solid and are really nice quality. I use two pair in my home theater rig, the 34 inch variety. Had them in my two channel rig for a while and sounded nice. Would highly recommend them over el cheapo dinky stands. They are also fillable.

They are available in 30, 28, 26 and 22 inch heights as well.

I'd try and find an adjustable stand unless you think the LSi9 will be the last loudspeaker you'll ever own. Monitors vary and I prefer some adjustability. However, the recommendations here are solid, excellent choices and worth a look.

My personal choice is the Usher Audio brand RWS-708. The MSRP is just that, check out a dealer and get a real price which should fit your budget just fine. I bought two pairs for $500, each were different designs and finishes.

The Usher Audio stands are 24"-28" in height and work perfectly for LSi9 or even LSi7. The 11"x7" top plate allows a very flexible range of monitors and almost full range loudspeakers.

Fit and finish is top notch and thick 1.5", solid granite bases are very nice for stability. They also have pre-drilled/anchored holes for threaded spikes, which I believe are M5, but check with Usher Audio. There are some color choices but it's not unlimited. I've owned a lot of speaker stands and they are easily the best of the bunch for me. They have served loudspeakers and myself for years and will not be replaced.

There's an older, vintage stand that they offered years ago that is even better and gorgeous in person, also MSRP $500. I wish I didn't sell them but it was purely an aesthetics issue at the time.

Sound Anchor makes a very nice stand as well, just to add to the choices. 100% custom sizing is available and it's not crazy expensive.

Doro, I would be nearly 99% certain this is my last pair. I do like these speaker stands, however. What dealer did you buy yours from?

I had my wife review all of the aforementioned speaker stands. Unfortunately, none of these passed my wife's eye test. Are there any other aesthetically pleasing, but yet high quality speaker stands on the market for purchase?

I have this same dilemma. I am contemplating purchase of some LSI-9's on Polk's e-bay store @ 549.97, free shipping and a very smart buy. I am now leaning towards the LSI-15's and think the extra $300 would take care of the speaker stand problem and get a little more base, down to 22hz from 38hz in the 9's. I think the would be nice stands for $300.00 ... but I really kind of wanted "bookies." What say you all.

Well, if you're using it with your XPA-5 (or any amp with a huge amount of power), I guess the LSI-15's might be a very good move because, as you said, you won't have the stand "issue". While I'm mostly a bookshelf guy for power consideration ,(and I like the look) I think that if you have the necessary power from your amp, those towers might be a no brainer. However, for someone on a tight budget with a 60W per channel amp, he might do better with a pair of speaker, even if it comes to the stand issue.

If you looked at the Sanus link, you probably already saw these, but I have the Sanus steel for my 9's. If the Ultimates didn't pass the test these probably won't either, but I thought I'd at least point them out.

I'd go with the 15's, but they need a little space to the outside because of the side-firing woofer. I have both 9's and 15's and I prefer the 15's for 2-channel, but my current setup doesn't allow for it because of the aforementioned reason.
