I am converting my garage into a sports room and needing advice on where to place everything.
It's a 20x20 garage with a step up area for my bar. I will be mounting my 55'' tv on the wall, running all cables through the wall to the corner of the garage. I will have a media cabinet where my xbox, receiver, directv box will be located so all my wiring will be ran back there. I will be looking to purchase a RF antenna, etc to run everything.
Ok, so imagine my tv in the middle of room on the side wall. I have the following items: Samsung HW-D7000 receiver, Polk Audio RC80-i round speakers, Polk Audio PSW110- Subwoofer, and monster XP speaker wire.
I have 6 round speakers that I can't decide if I want them in the ceiling or in the wall. What's the best option? I have 8 recessed lighting so I have to space them all apart if I use the ceiling.. Where will I get the best sound for surround sound? My friends say the sound will travel straight down if they are in the ceiling. I thought if I put them in the wall and they are round, wouldn't that look different?
Any help would be appreciated..Starting next week and trying to write everything down that I want.
Thanks,
Cody

The higher the frequency, the more directional a sound becomes. So a lot of the sound coming from in-ceiling speakers will sound like it's coming from the ceiling. In-ceiling speakers are typically for bringing some background music to a room, not for HT. Yes, round speakers in the wall will look different, and there may not even be enough clearance behind them to put them in the wall since they are designed to go into a ceiling, so that's something to look in to.

I thought I only had a day to buy speakers since a contractor is doing my home improvement in my garage and I wanted them to be here in time. So what I did was went to Best Buy and talked to a gentleman there. He said, " You can't go wrong with Polk in-wall in-ceiling speakers, etc...." I was like ok, I like those and I can just put them up in the ceiling and it should sound really good for surround sound. I thought I was doing well and I don't know anything about surround sound.
I bought the Samsung - 840W 7.2-Ch. 3D Pass Through Receiver with built-in Blu-ray Disc Player. I need to decide what I should do and stick with it.
