Hi,

Just found this place, and so grateful to have found it. Seems to have emmense knowledge and expertise. Just entering the HT/good system world.

Got a TV and so it started, what HT, so now I have a Onk 806, I am thinking of getting some speakers which are on sale in my area, there is a pair of RTi 12's for $700, a pair of RTi-A9 with Csi6 for $1100, and fry's has an ad for Ri8 pair for $384 shipped.

I want the best sound, but have an average room, 15 x 24 ish, i will probaly run 5 speaker system, front, center, surround, no back surround. So don;t know what is good and what is too much, but don;t want to upgrade later.

I am also getting a pair of GFA-555 for $500. Can I do this to get max power

AV pre out front L(thorugh a Y RCA adapter) -- GFA Amp # 1 -- 1st channel to bottom connections of RTi12, 2nd channel to top connections of RTi12, repeat same to the right side, will this give 200 wpc to the woofers and 200 wpc to the tweeters separtely on both towers.

OR should I get a Emotiva xpa-3 or xpa-5

Too many questions, but hope you people will have easy answers for me :-)

Get the Rti 12's over the 8's, I just upgraded and wouldn't go back. They'll pair much better with the Adcom's over the Emotiva's/ You should be good to go!

With B Run on this one, 12's all day. You have a nice size room so those 12's can breathe with no issue. Also sounds like you have or will have power on deck to make them sound even better. Good prices on the Polk Ebay store if haven't looked yet.

    Thanks for the replies.

So you are conforming that I can have a single EFA 555 to power only one RTi12, one channel connection to the highs and the other to the lows after removing the bridge and this will give 400 wpc to one tower.

The same thing to the other side tower.

I have 220wpc running my RTi 12s. Sound great. Of course more power is always nice, but I was under the impression, like you, that you have more total power bi-amping. Believe it or not, it's not really true.

All you need are two of these, at $150 each, it's a solid deal. I started out on Outlaw Monoblocks and they are very good bang for buck amps.

Can I do this to get the max out of the GFA-555 to the RTi12's

Typo : Read the "center as the "Front" I was looking at the manual and forgot I am trying to amp the fronts :-(

    Hi Deron,

When you say "I have 220wpc running my RTi 12s." Are you running this with bridge on the Rti12''s or by removing the bridge.

i have both rti8s and rti12s. If you're using an AVR, then rti8s. If you have an amp with 200+ WPC, then rti12s. Rti12s sound warmer(not sure how, since they've the same tweeter) and fuller with my setup.

Leave the jumper in place, and connect the amp using speaker wire from the amp to the speaker.

Can I remove the jumper and give the bottom channel from the GFA 555 and the upper channel through the Onkyo SR806.

Will this result in 200 w to the bottom and 130 w to the upper ones, since these speakers have crossover, will it result in 330 wpc to the entire tower.

Sorry if I am sounding naive, I read and get confused.

Doesn't work like that, just leave the jumpers on and use the Adcom on the bottom posts, you'll be good to go!

You only realy need to use one set of posts on the back of the speakers, but keep the jumper plates there, don't remove them.

First i would buy those two 555's for 500 bucks thats a pretty sweet deal. I really dont think you need to bi-amp one 555 to each speaker. One of those 555's should power your front L/R just fine with more than enough power. But you should also realize you center channel is one of your most important speakers in your HT and should receive the same amount of power as your l/r or its just not gonna sound that good. Sell one of those 555's and get a nice mono amp for the center and you should be good to go.
Music doesn't lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.

Hey thanks guys, this has been very helpful.

Now for some more :-) I have a Sony bookshelf system (200W, 2 speakers and a woofer), can I use those speakers (without the woofer) as the surround L/R till I get the money for a polk surround L/R.

What wire size should I use, I have bought a 14 AWG roll.

This should take care of the wiring with the EFA 555.

So thank you guys, I have my RTi12's set up and running

    Onkyo 806
    Adcom GFA 555
    Rti12's

    First impressions :

Nice sound, specially the clarity, but not blown away, that may be due to the fact that I have to set up the settings on 806 and add the subwoofer and center speaker.

Right now I am max on the Bass and +2 on the 806 setting.

What sub is good enough and best value.

14AWG should be enough, unless you run it like 100ft. I am using 14AWG from monoprice.

it sounds like you want more bass from your system, from my experience (even with 300WPC), the bass will always lower than the mid/high. you can't keep turn up the volume because then it's too loud. Best just to set the Rti12s at around 60-80hz, then add a sub, Polk PSW505 is less than $200, most bang for buck now.

I set my at 60hz, then the Deftech SCI take over. Big change in sound

You need to set up the receiver. You can always change things once you get a subwoofer. Make sure for now the speakers are set to LARGE and set speaker levels at 0 and adjust up or down to your liking. Set subwoofer to NO, so all the bass goes to the towers.

    Thanks again,

I did change the settings and put no woofer, no center, no surr and the bass changed in the fronts.

I am getting the sub and a center anyway for the movies.

I have to read the manual for more precise settings.

I was thinking of connecting my cable and DVD through the 806 but read reviews that the pictures quality suffers sometimes. What are your experiences. Right now I am playing through the digital out from the TV, the TV has 4 hdmi ports so thats not a problem, just too many remotes.
