Fiber Optic internet

Just got this installed at the 25 Mbps speed. Very fast. Very happy. Only $3.00/month more than I was paying for 15 Mbps DSL. The installer told me 100 Mbps is not far off. The fiber optic line was brought right into my place. Smaller than a strand of hair and will do 4 TV's and internet. Totally cool. Blazing fast!

Welcome to the Fiber club bro. I just got rid of my 100 meg line and now have a dedicated 200 meg line installed. US and some places are a little behind Asia where we now have 1gig fiber out here. I wanted to go 1gig, but my ISP said 200 was plenty fast for household. I have everything on my network and never experience slow down. Congrats.

Bandwidth isn't everything for online gaming.

I have my cable provider's lowest fiber optic plan and I'm getting 20 down/30 up.

I get 15-20ms ping on my 25/3 line, and it spikes to 90mb/s at night going down. Docsis3.0 is best we got here in the great plains.

Got Uverse which is fiber to the home. LOVE playing Halo Reach online now :).

That and surprisingly the H15 cleaned up the signal and helped make it better (at least thats what the Xbox 360 tells me)

Nope. I live about 300 miles from Vancouver in the interior of the province in a town of about 30,000. You really need to re-think your idea of Canada being backwater and behind the technology curve.

Uverse is in our area, but it's not fiber to the home. It's fiber to the RO and then copper from the RO to the home. With all the bad reviews it's gotten here I'm staying away from it.

No, that wasn't what I was thinking. What I had in mind was that if the U.S. could not afford to provide fiber optic cables 200 miles north of Boston, how could Canada afford that kind of infrastructural upgrade at 300 miles from a major city. And this condition is fairly common in the U.S. for almost anyone who is too far from a "major" metropolitan area. Living under Quebec we're quite familiar with Canadian conditions (very nice actually and in many instances a lot "cleaner" than many U.S. urban areas).

In fact this demonstrates how "much" we are "falling behind". We are NOT top tier in internet speeds globally when we take all of the U.S. into consideration!

If Americans (U.S.) that is, are guilty of anything it is thinking that Canada is pretty much just like us.

No problem. It's all good. I clearly remember 15 years ago when I was all excited to go from a 1440 to a 2800 baud dial up connection.

And I'm on a university campus. I hate our internet. Periodically will be able to download a game at a good rate, but then half the time playing Halo Reach there's too much lag to be enjoyable.

My nearest neighbor is 3 1/2 miles away they ran 9 miles of fiber to hook up four houses in this area (mine was one) this was part of the Rural Development Act, sometimes the government does the right thing. Before this the best I had was WildBlue and it was pretty expensive. Having fiber direct to your home is awesome

For those of you now using fiber, how are you enjoying it? Still having fun with mine, zero issues so far. I have the Asus Darknight ( RT-N66U) for my router jumped off the NTT 1gb Fiber Onu box. Speeds are great

I wish. Up here we have the great pleasure of paying for everything! The phone companies like Telus along with the power guys just tack it on to our monthly bills.
