Recommendations For Under Counter Kegerators...

We are currently in the finishing touches of my basement remodel and the granite countertops are ready to go in. The measurements that we're looking for are 24Wx24Dx33-1/2"H and i need a tower so the granite dudes can drill the hole.

Do any of you have under counter kegerators? Or kegerators in general.....
Which brand do you have/used that are reliable?
Should i find a mini fridge and by a conversion kit?

I'm not looking for any specific door material ie, Stainless, Glass, standard fridge white/black. I've never owned a Kegerator before so this is all going to be new to me. Since i'm only one man, i don't expect this to hold a full keg. I see myself only getting 1/6barrels....maybe 1/4's.
How big of a hole do i need to be drilled into the countertop for the tubing?
What accessories do i need?
I need it to be = $1K or preferably LESS!

I'll post pictures of the finished area once we are complete. This has been 1.25 years in the making and i need her done...I'm thirsty!

Help Please!

Thanks in advance!

I'll get pictures up later just to show a little or what the last year of my life has been.
It's going to be the most well deserved beer of my life. I'm thinking the first 1/6 barrel will be a dogfish head 90 minute ipa at 12%. enough to knock me and any other straight to ground.

But i have to get the kegerator first...

I was just talking about that with my brother....
I suggested i find a narragansett handle...If you've ever had the beer, you'll know just how terrible it is and with that, people will stay away from my beer.

    It's a Rhode Island beer.....

I've seen those before (on the innerwebz that is) - I wonder how much those special cups run? I'd think that would be the deal killer for most.

I bet it isn't to bad. It is just a magnet that seals against the bottom of the cup.

Look for a local restaurant supply- they should have what you want w/o the "you must be Bill Gates" mark-up.

I can look up a restaurant supply...thats not a problem.
Still nobody has chimed in about good/bad brands and what they've seen/used.

Pep...if youre buying that "special" beer pouring device, ill take it!

Well, last time I had a kegerator was in grad school and it was a conversion- since you want undercounter, you probably don't want to go that route. An undercounter fridge has to have all its venting on the front, so they're already specialized, plus if you go undercounter, you won't have the extra space to burn. Ours was in a corner of a basement, so we had space for the air tank on the outside and it was a bigass fridge, so the fact that the bottom wasn't flat wasn't a problem- we could set the keg on a cinderblock to level things up (it made sense at the time).

Point being, with space constraints and WAF, you'll be better off not doing a conversion kit.

Yeah i figured with all the hassle, it's really not worth it to me to find an old fridge to convert. Not that i'm not willing to take the task on which is not the case, it's that i've spent so much time making this the nicest place i can and having a dorm fridge with a jerry-rigged keg system just doesn't do it for me.

I think i'm going to hit the purchase button tonight!...we are so close i can taste it!

A little off-topic, but I thought it might be helpful; (beer lover here)...If you're ever looking for a full size upright fridge---that has no freezer, Sears/KMart sells them. I searched high and low (didn't want a freezer taken up my brewski space)--finally found mine at Sears.

Like mentioned earlier, surf bar supplier warehouses. All kinds of cool bar stuff.

    GREAT LOOKING BAR, BTW!!!

I wonder what happens when the keg kicks halfway through pouring the beer?

I will post more pictures of the overall area once i am complete. Windows are going in tomorrow and will hopefully have them all trimmed out by the end of next weekend. That will be a completely separate thread as this one is only about the hunt for the kegerator.

Here is a teaser of what that area looked like after i pulled all the wood paneling and sheetrock off the walls.

Are you my daddy?! The empty space in the countertop is for my mini fridge. I just haven't picked one yet but will be looking shortly and will use your info. The kegerator is currently holding my random beer stock pile. I will be picking up a 1/4 or 1/6 keg next weekend. How many of these have you tried or heard of? I start working on these tomorrow once i finish the rest of my damn Sam Adams. I usually try to never drink the same beer in a given month.

I also got a bunch of Beer Handles for Xmas from my brother who knows a guy that has a bar in the area.
Most of them are common. I have 2 cats named Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne after Dumb and Dumber. The Handle was for my sick cat that i just had put down on Monday morning due to complications so it's only fitting to name the bar "Harry's Bar and Lounge".....i miss him

The big question is, what keg will be my first?!?!?!
    Suggestions?

Now i'm workin on the Black and Brew...very good but the Bock wipes the floor with it.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard it can be to lose a beloved pet.

Also, if I actually liked beer, I'd be planning a road trip to come visit.

Always wanted to do this but beer that available is a dangerous thing.

There is a place in Baltimore that makes beer taps. I think a custom designed tap of your choosing would be a great touch.

    Good looking basment BTW.
