Need subwoofer advice from the old pros.

For my family room setup (the one the family uses mainly have A Marantz SR5004 Receiver mated to Polk monitor 60s for fronts M30s for rear and a CS1. All recent purchases from polk audio direct. I wanted a cheap setup for everyone to use, and it sounds great. All this replaces the JBL SCS 300 speaker system (now sold as the SCS500) .
As I stated in a previous post I am using the JBL sub 300 subwoofer from the original setup as my sub (it is a 150watt RMS 10" sub) I want to upgrade it, with a reasonably priced sub, but for that reasonable price I want a large return in major bass, (I am not an audio guy, I like poorly recorded Punk music, I won't be listening to led zepplin on vinyl or anything) I watch football, racing, and listen to loud music and I want a sub that hurts my chest like the Kickers in my truck in high school. My buddy has a Build it yourself Dayton Audio 240watt 15" subwoofer (which I assembled) and I am leaning towards that, sorry for the book but you guys like your details So:
That Dayton sub is @$340 is there anything, same price or less that will give me more boom for the buck? When the boys are over watching football, I want to be able to switch to the hippity hop station and blow the pictures off the walls.
One last thing, i tried the PSW110 in my home already, it didn't touch the JBL in any way shape or form unfortunately, because I love Polk products. I use an 8"JBL 80 watt sub with the SCS speakers mentioned above in my den, and I would argue that was as good as the PSW110. Would the BIC I see around the internet claiming 475 watts be substantially better?? (I know it is not 475 watts)
thanks guys, if you have to be smart-assed please post it in a cable or bi-amp debate thread.

Comparing a 100 watt 10" sub with a 240 watt 15" sub isn't even in the same realm of things. I used to have 3 10's in my cutlass, and that hit hard. I had 2 12's and a 15 in my jimmy and you could hear me for miles.
If you're going to compare subs, you've got to do it apples to apples. I'd say the 1000 watt DWS 660wi would be an excellent comparison. Hits hard, lots of power. I'm sure some will disagree, but I don't think the 110 is anything that people will be writing home about. If you're looking for cheap, check out the PSW505. Then bi-amp it with monster cables, and return it when your done. (sorry... had to )65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

I love it,I am the king of returning stuff or as I like to call it renting.
I was comparing a 100 watt polk to a claimed 150 watt jbl, but I understand what you are saying. Do you remember the 15" in your Jimmy? I want that sound in my family room when I feel like cranking it up.
I am not a h/t brainiac (obv), but the dws 660 is 250 watts right? I would love to get my hands on one and "audition" it, but here in the Deroit area no one carries it(because we are all broke ). you use it personally, is it good?great? I would pay $555-650 for a polk product if I knew it would make my eyeballs flutter and made it difficult to drink my beer at 3/4 volume. I will pay for quality I just will not go over board. -
I think you’ve made some truly interesting points. Not too many people would actually think about this the way you just did. I am really impressed that there is so much information about this subject that have been uncovered and you did it so well, with so much class. Thanks.

The DSW (I hhad it wrong in my first post) is actually 500 RMS (1000 max). From my previous Sony 12 that I had (150 watts I think?) it is definately much better sounding. It sounds solid, and it hits hard. The sony could get loud, but it didn't really hit hard.
If you check Newegg, they sell the DSW660wi for $349 on a pretty regular basis (i.e. every other week). I can't comment on other subs though. I do know there are some monsters out there that will put this one to shame as well. But for the price - I think this is right about where things should be without spending a grand.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Aloha Detroit! Welcome from this Oregon Hillbilly......You may wish to look at Episode subs, they are in Norf care a line a....Hehe, I have one, it will work your chest for about 350$, shipped to your door! Mine is an CS-sub10. I would like to have gotten their 12", but did not have the coin. They also have some 10s that cost more, and have more power. Sounds like you need one with a bit more grunt, and of course you will have to belly up to the bar with a few more bucks to get that......Good will hunting...Cheers

Thanks guys, your help is appreciated greatly and the research continues, I am now looking at said models. As for reporting the above D-bag poster: well I have no doubt I could match wits and IQ come out on top and still have a happier life than him. I have dealt with bigger fools with larger thesaurus based quips than what that guy has. If he wants to start a flame war on an audio forum, well then we can smile and find enjoyment in the obviously pathetic state of his life, or lack there of. Like watching a Meth addict on cops, it's fun from a far.
